HomeMy WebLinkAbout1366 ORDINANCE NO. 1366 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTIONS 2720 AND 2721 OF THE ARCADIA MUNICIPAL CODE (CITY BUSINESS ON HOLIDAYS). THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That Sections 2720 and 2721 of the Arcadia Municipal Code are hereby amended to read respectively as follows: 2720. CITY OFFICES OPEN. Pursuant to Section 6702 of the California Government Code, all public offices of the City of Arcadia shall remain open for the transaction of all business on the follow- ing holidays enumerated in Section 6700 of the California Government Code, to wit: February 12--Lincoln's Birthday October 12--Columbus Day Every day on which an election is held throughout the State. 2721. CITY OFFICES CLOSED. All public offices of the City of Arcadia shall be closed for the transaction of business on all holidays enumerated in Section 6700 of the California Government Code except those days specified in Section 2720 of this Part. Whenever New Year's Day--January 1, Washington's Birthday--February 22, Mem- orial Day--May 30, Independence Day--July 4, .,Admission Day--Septem- ber 9, Veterans' Day--November 11, Christmas Day--December 25, or any day appointed by the President or Governor for a public fast, thanksgiving or holiday, falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Friday preceding or the Monday following, respectively, shall be a holiday and all public offices of the City shall be closed for the transac- tion of business on all such Fridays and Mondays. -1- 1366 SECTION 2. This ordinance is hereby declared to be neces- sary as an emergency measure for preserving the public peace, health or safety and shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. A statement of the reasons for its urgency is as follows: On June 28, 1967 the City Council determined, among other things, that Veterans' Day should be a holiday for all City employees, and said decision has heretofore been implemented by amendment of the City Personnel Rules and Regulations. Through inadvertence the Municipal Code has not been amended to provide for the closing of the City Hall on November 10, 1967, said date being the Friday immediately preceding Veterans' Day, and said date being a holiday for all City employees. In order to prevent confusion to the public and to provide for the orderly conduct of business when necessary but to provide for the closing of the Arcadia City Hall on November 10, 1967, it is neces- sary that this ordinance take effect immediately upon its adoption. ~.' ...~ SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause the same to be published once forthwith upon its adoption.
