HomeMy WebLinkAbout1062 ORDINANCE NO. 1062 AN ORDINANCE OF TEE ~ITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING A SPEED LIMIT OF THIHTY- FIVE MILES PER HOUR ON PORTIONS OF LONGDEN AVENUE AND SECOND AVENUE. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. It is hereby determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that the speed of twenty-five (25) miles per hour established for business or residence districts by Section 511 of the Vehicle Code is less than is necessary for the safe operation of vehicles on certain portions of Longden Ave- nue and Second Avenue; and it is hereby declared that the prima facie speed limit on Longden Avenue between Baldwin Avenue and Eighth Avenue and on Second Avenue between Huntington Drive and Live Oak Avenue in the City of Arcadia shall be thirty-five miles per hour. SECTION 2. The Director of Public Works of the City of Arcadia is hereby authorized and directed to cause the proper signs to be posted and to regulate the timing of traffic signals so as to permit the movement of traffic in an orderly and safe manner. SECTION 3. That any person, firm or corporation violat- ing any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemea~or and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or by imprison- ment in the City Jail of said City of Arcadia, or in the County Jail of the County of Los Angeles, State of California, at the discretion of the Committing Magistrate, for a period not exceeding six (6) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. SEc~rION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption -l- 1062 of this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from the passage thereof shall cause the same to be published once in the Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia News, a newspaper of general circulation, published and circulated in the City of Arcadia.
