ORDINANCE NO. 1083
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
ADOPTING BY REFERENCE A PRIMARY CODE
ENTITLED "UNIFORM ELECTRICAL CODE.
(1959 EDITION)", CREATING THE OFFICE
OF CHIEF ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR,
PRESCRIBING HIS DUTIES AND AUTHORITY,
PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF ELECTRICAL
PERMITS AND FOR INSPECTIONS AND FIXING
THE FEES THEREFOR; REGULATING THE
INSTALLATION, ARRANGEMENT, ALTERATION,
REPAIR, MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION OF
ELECTRIC WIRING, ELECTRIC FIXTURES
AND OTHER ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND
EQUIPMENT AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR
VIOLATION OF THE SAME; ADOPTING BY
REFERENCE A SECONDARY CODE REFERRED
TO IN SAID PRIMARY CODE; AND REPEALING
ORDINANCES NO. 709 AND NO. 734 OF THE
CITY OF ARC ADIA .
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. UNIFORM ELECTRICAL CODE ADOPTED. That that cer-
tain document in book form entitled "Uniform Electrical Code (1959
Edition)", published by the Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau, 538 West
Sixth Street, Los Angeles 14, California and 681 Market Street, San
Francisco 5, California, creating the office of Chief Electrical In-
spector, prescribing his duties and authority, providing for the issu-
ance of electrical permits and for inspections and fixing the fees
therefor, regulating the installation, arrangement, alteration, repair,
maintenance and operation of electric wiring, electric fixtures and
other electrical appliances and equipment, and providing a penalty
for violation of the same, three copies of which are now on file in
the office of the City Clerk of the City of Arcadia and available for
inspection, and which is hereby designated as the "Primary Code", is
hereby adopted by reference and enacted by the City Council of the
City of Arcadia to be known as the "Electrical Code of the City of
Arcadia. "
SECTION 2. SECONDARY CODE ADOPTED. That that certain docu-
ment in book form entitled "1959 National Electrical Code," containing

the standard of the National Board of Fire Underwriters for electric
wiring and apparatus as recommended by the National Fire Protection
Association, approved August 5, 1959 by American Standards Associa-
tion, and published by the National Board of Fire Underwriters, 85
John Street, New York 38, New York, 222 West Adams Street, Chicago 6,
Illinois, and 465 California Street, San Francisco 4, California,
which 1959 National Electrical Code is hereby referred to as the
"Secondary Code" and is referred to in aforesaid Uniform Electrical
Code (1959 Edition), is hereby adopted by reference.
SECTION 3. PURPOSES. The purpose and intent of the fore-
going Primary Code and Secondary Code is to prescribe regulations
consistent with nationally recognized standard practice to safe-
guard life and limb, health, property and public welfare by regu-
lating the installation, arrangement, alteration, repair, mainte-
nance and operation of electric wiring, electric fixtures and other
electrical appliances and equipment within the City of Arcadia.
SECTION 4. REPEALS. That Ordinance No. 709 of the City
of Arcadia, adopted June 2, 1948, and Ordinance No. 734, adopted
December 7, 1948, be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 5. CERTIFICATION. The City Clerk shall certify
to the adoption of this ordinance and prior to the expiration of
fifteen (15) days from the passage thereof shall cause the same to
be published once in the Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia News, a news-
paper of general circulation published and circulated in the City
of Arcadia.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 21st day of June ,1960, by the affirmative vote
of at least three Councilmen, to wit:
