ORDINANCE NO. 1084
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
ADOPTING BY REFERENCE A PRIMARY CODE
ENTITLED "UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE (1958
EDITION) ", DELETING AND AMENDING
CERTAIN SECTIONS THEREOF, AND REPEALING
ORDINANCES NOS. 762 AND 789 OF SAID
CITY. '
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. UNIFORM PLUMBING CODE ADOPTED.
With the ex-
ception of the deletions and amendments set forth more particularly
hereinafter, that certain document in book form, three copies of
which are on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of
Arcadia for use and examination by the public, being marked and des-
ignated as "Uniform Plumbing Code, 1958 Edition" adopted by the
Western Plumbing Officials Association at the twenty-eighth Annual
Conference, September 1957, consisting of 123 pages, together with
Appendix A thereof to be found on pages 127 to 137 thereof, Appen-
dix B thereof to be found on pages 138 and 139 thereof, Appendix C
thereof to be found on pages 140 and 141 thereof, Appendix D thereof
to be found on pages 143 and 144 thereof, and Appendix E thereof to
be found on pages 145 to 149 thereof, together with the index por-
tion of said Code to be found on pages 159 to 187, both inclusive,
be and the same is hereby adopted as the Plumbing Code of the City
of Arcadia.
SECTION 2. PURPOSE. The purpose and intent of the fore-
going Primary Code is to prOVide for the protection of the public
health and safety by requiring a permit for the installation or
alteration of plumbing, gas and drainage systems; creating the Of-
fice of Plumbing Official and prescribing his duties; defining
certain terms; establishing minimum regulations for the installa-
tion} alteration or repair of plumbing, gas or drainage systems,
and the inspection thereof; and providing penalties for its viola-
tion.

SECTION 3. DELETIONS. That Part 2, comprising Sections
2.1 to 2.11, inclusive, of said Uniform Plumbing Code, 1958 Edition,
as hereinbefore adopted by reference, is hereby deleted and repealed
and shall not be applicable.
SECTION 4. AMENDMENT. That Section 1.7 of aforesaid
Uniform Plumbing Code, 1958 Edition, heretofore adopted, be and the
same is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 1.7 - Violations and Penal ties.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the pro-
visions of this code shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and
upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not to
exceed Five Hundred and nO/100 Dollars ($500.00) or by imprison-
ment in the City or County Jail for not to exceed six (6) months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each separate day or any
portion thereof during which any violation of this code occurs
or continues shall be deemed to constitute a separate offense,
and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable as herein provided.
The issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans
and specifications shall not be deemed or construed to be a per-
mit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions
of this code. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or
cancel the provisions of this code shall be valid, except insofar
as the work or use which it authorizes is lawful.
The issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans
shall not prevent the Administrative Authority from thereafter re-
quiring the correction of errors in said plans and specifications
or from preventing construction operations being carried on there-
under when in violation of this code or of any other ordinance or
from revoking any Certificate of Approval when issued in error.
Every permit issued by the Administrative Authority under
the provisions of this code shall expire by limitation and become
null and void, if the work authorized by such permit is not com-
menced within sixty (60) days from the date of issuance of such

permit, or if the work authorized by such permit is suspended or
abandoned at any time after the work is commenced for a period of
sixty (60) days. Before such work can be recommenced a new permit
shall be first obtained so to do.
SECTION 5. SAME. That Section 1.1 of the aforesaid
Uniform Plumbing Code, 1958 Edition, hereinbefore adopted is here-
by amended to read as follows:
Section 1.1. - Administrative Authority and Assistants.
Whenever the term "administrative authority" is used in
this code it shall be construed to mean the Building Official of
the City of Arcad:La or. his authorized representative.
SECTION 6. SAME. That Section 1.2 of the aforesaid
Uniform Plumbing Code, 1958 Edition, hereinbefore.adopted is here-
by amended to read as follows:
Section 1.2. - Assistants.
Whenever the term "assistants" is used in this code it
shall be construed to mean the deputies or agents of the Building
Official.
SECTION 7. SAME. That Section 1.3 of the aforesaid
Uniform Plumbing Code, 1958 Edition, hereinbefore adopted is here-
by amended to read as follows:
Section 1.3. - Department Having Jurisdiction.
Unless otherwise provided for by law, the office of the
Administrative Authority shall be a part of the Building Division
of the Public Works Department.
SECTION 8. REPEALS. That Ordinance No. 762, adopted
May 3, 1949, and Ordinance No. 769 adopted January 3, 1950, be and
the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 9. CERTIFICATION. The City Clerk shall certify
to the adoption of this ordinance and prior to the expiration of

fifteen (15) days from the passage thereof, shall cause the same to
be published once in the Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia News, a news-
paper of general circulation, published and circulated in the City
of Arcadia.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 21st day of
