TIlE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CI'rY OF ARCADIA DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons,
whether as principal or principals, agent or ageNts, clerk, employee or
employees, either for themselves, or for any other person, or bodies
corporate, or otherwise, or as officers of corporations, to carryon any
trane, calling, profession or occupation, in this ordinance specified
without first having procured a license from the City of Arcadia so to do,
and each and every day or fractional part of a day that said trade,
calling, profession or occupation in this ordinance specified is conducted
or carried on wi th011t such license, shall constitute a violation of this
ordinance, and such rerscn, or Gersons, agent, or agents, clerk or clerks,
employee or employees, \mo shall for themselves, or for any other person
or persons, or body corporate or otherwise, conduct or carryon any trade,
calling, profession or occupation aforesaid, without first having procured
a license so to do, shall for each vio~tion of this ordinance be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction by any court having juris-
diction thereof, shall be fined therefor in a sum not exceeding One
Hundred Dollars, or be imprisoned for a term not exceeding fifty days, or
shall suffer both fine and imprisonment in the discretion of the Court,
and the amount of such license shall be deemed a debt to the said City
of Arcadia, and such persons, agents, clerks, employees, and "hodies
corporate, or either of them, or any of trem, shall be liable to an
action in the name of the City of Arcadia, in any court of competent
jurisdiction for the amount of the license of sllch trade, calling, pro-
fession or occupation, as he shall or they may "he engaged in, with costs
of suit.
Section ~. It shall be the duty of the City Clerk of the said
City of Arcadia to issue a license under this ordinance to each person
liable to pay a license hereunder, duly signed by the said City Clerk,

an(J to fix and state the amount of license thereon, and the time for
which the same shall run, and the business for which t.he same is issued,
and for tha t purpose the City Clerk may confer with pers ons in interes t,
and may require any person to file his or her affidavit as to the
character of such business and that in no case shall any mistake by the
said City Clerk in fixin8 the amount of such license, or the time for
whi.ch the same is to run, prevent the collection of what shall be actually
due wi th all costs against anyone carrying on said trade, calling, pro-
fession or occupation withrnlt a license, or refusing to pay such rate so
fixed by the City Clerk.
The City Clerk shall deliver such licenses to the City Marshal
for collection, taking his receipt for same, and the City Clerk shall
report to the Board of T~lstees, at its first meeting in each month the
amount of such licenses so delivered to the City Marshal (Juring the
previous month. 'rhe City Marshal shall ~roceed at once to collect the
same and shall, on or before the first Monday in each month, deliver to
the said Ci ty Clerk, a complete list of all licenses collected by him
for the previous month, and also, a list of all re rsons whom he believes
not to be on the license list, who should be charged with the payment of
a license, and he shall pay over to the City Treasurer all. licenses
col~cted by him during the preceeding month, and shall take the
Treasurers receipt for the same, which he shall file with the City Clerk
and shall report the amount thereof together wl. th the amount delin!iuencies
to the Board of Trustees at its first meeting in each month. No license
for any of the callings, trades, professions, or occupations, carried
on by any person delinquent for the payment of any license fee hereunder
shall be issued to such person, either directly or indirectly, until the
payment of all license fees due from such person together with all costs.
Section 3. All licenses shall be paid in advance in legal
currency of the Uni t.ed Stat es, at. the office of the City Marshal, and a
separate license must be obtained for each branch establishment or
separate place of business, whtch license authorizes the party obtaining
it to carryon, pursue or conduct only that trade, calling, profession or
occupation, described in such license and only at the location or place of

business which is indicated therein, the monthly license in this
ordinance provided for shall be due and payable to the said City on the
1st. callendar day of each month in advance for all perrons, agents, firms,
or corporations, who have for the previous month been licensed to carry
on any such trade, calling, profession or occupation; for all persons,
agents, firms or corporations, who have not been licensed for the previous
'l1onth for the same trade, calling, profession or occupation, the license
shall be dlle and payable and must ne procured by Sllch person before carry-
ing on such trade, calling, profession or occupation, and shall extend
only to the last day of the month for which such license shall have been
obtained: provided that where such license shall be first obtained as
aforesaid only the proportionate amount shall he charged as shall be
applicable to the lmexpire,'J portion of the month from the date of the
issuance of said license.
When the license herein provided for is per annum the same shall
be due and payable to said City on the first day of January of each year
and when for six months on the first day of January and the first day
of July, and the first license for such year or half year may be issued
for the unexpired portion of the current year or half year then current
and the rate to be charges for the same shall be proportioned accordirg ly.
No greater or less amounts of money shall be charges or received for
licenses so issued than is orovided for in this ordinance, and no license
shall be sold or issued for any period of time other than is provided in
thi s ord inance.
Section ,i. Every person having a license under the provisions of
this ordinance shall place and exhibit the same at all times while in force
in some conspicuous part of his or her or their place of business where
said pIa ce of bus iness is maintained and shall produce and exhi bi t the
same when applying for a renewal or when requested to do so by the City
Marshal of said City, or any of his deputies.
Section Q. Every peddler of goods, wares and merchandise, while
engaged in peddling shall carry his license and exhibit it when re~uired
by the City Marshal of said City or one of his deputies.

Section 6. Any person driving or having control of any vehicle
on which a number is required to be placed by this ordinance shall give
the number of his vehicle on inquiry of any person.
Section 7. The City Marshal and any of his deputies shall have
and exercise the power of
First. To make arrests for the violation of any of the pro-
visions of this ordinance.
Second. To enter free of charge at any time, any place of
1]'lsiness for which a license Is required and provided and to demand the
exhi"hi tion of such license for the current term from any person, firm or
corporation engaged or employed in the transaction of such business, and if
such person, firm or corporation shall then and there fail to exhibit
such license, such person, firm or corporation shall be liable to the
same penalty as provided under See tion 5ne of this Ordinance. It is hereby
made the duty of the City Marshal and his deputies to cause complaints
to be filed against all persons, firms or corporations violating any of the
provisions of this Ordinance.
Section 8. The conviction and punishment of any person for
transacting any trade, callin[S, profession or occupation wi thout a
license shall not excuse or exempt such person from the r:a yment of any
license dne or unpaid at the time of such conviction.
Section 9. When the word "person" or the word "persons" is used
in this Ordinance referring to those liable to !Jl y a license or tax the
same are and each is, intended and shall be construed t.o mean and include
every firm, association or corporation conducting or carrying on the
"husiness, trade, profession, occupat.ion, or calling for which such license
must first 1]e procured.
Section 12. The rates of all licenses for the businesses, trades,
callings, professions or occupations hereinafter named shall be and the
same are hereby fixed and established for and wi thin the said Ci ty of
Arcadia, according to the following schedule, and the same shall be paid
hy all persons engaged in such businesses, trades, callings, professions,
or occupations and are fixed as follows, to-wit:

Section ll. For every person running a wagon or other vehicle
for the delivery of laundry work to and from any laundry situated outside
of the limits of the City of Arcadia four (4) Dollars per ~onth for each
such wagon or vehicle used.
Section 12. For each person carrying on or conducting a laundry
agency fo',r Dollars per Month.
Section 13. For every person or firm residing outside the City of
Arcadia, or corporation having its principal place of business outside
the Ci ty of Arcadia, running any cart, dray, wagon or vehicle for the
delivery of freight or goods, Ten (~?lO.OO) Dollars per Month for each
wagon or vehicle used.
Section 14. For every person or firm residing ~ltside the City
of Arcadia, or corporation, having its principal place of business outside
the City of Arcadia, managing or carrying on the business of peddling or
delivery of meat or meats, Ten U)lO.OO) Dollars per Month for each wagon
or vehicle used.
Section 15. For every person or firm residing outside the City
of Arcadia, or corporation having its principal place of nusiness outside
the City of Arcadia, managing or carrying on the business of peddling hay,
grain, or other feed Ten (~~10.00) Dollars per Month for each wagon or
vehicle used.
Section 16. For every person, firm or corporation conducting,
managing or carrying on tte business of horse racing, or such husiDess as
is usually done hy what are commonly known as racing associations, Two
Hundred Dollars ($200.00) Jll r Month during racing season.
Section 17. This Ordinance shall be printed and posted in at
least three public places in the City of Arcadia.
