ORDINANCE NO. 1821
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 9220.2 OF THE ARCADIA MUNICIPAL
CODE PERTAINING TO ACCESSORY LIVING QUARTERS/GUEST HOUSE
DEFINITION AND REGULATIONS
WHEREAS, a text amendment was initiated by the City for the
consideration of amending Section 9220.2 of the Arcadia Municipal Code
pertaining to Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House definition and
regulations, and
WHEREAS, a Public Hearing was held on August 13, 1985 before the
Planning Commission at which time all interested persons were given full
opportunity to be heard, and to present evidence, and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Arcadia
recommended subject amendment to the City Council, and
WHEREAS, the City Council conducted a Public Hearing concerning
this proposal on September 3, 1985 and approved the amendment.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES
HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That Section 9220.2 be amended to read as follows:
"9220.2. ACCESSORY LIVING QUARTER/GUEST HOUSE. Accessory Living
Quarters/Guest House are living quarters within an accessory building
for the sole use of members of the family occupying the main building;
persons employed by and rendering services exclusively to the family
occupying the main building and rendering such services primarily on the
property; and/or the temporary use by guests of the family occupying the
main building.

Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House shall comply with the
following:
1. Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House may be used for the
temporary use by guests of the family occupying the main building,
provided that such use shall not exceed a total of thirty (30) days
during each calendar year.
2. Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House shall not contain a
separate room for the preparation of food.
3. Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House shall not contain
facilities for the heating or cooking of food.
4. Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House shall not contain more
than one (1) bedroom. Every room within an Accessory Living
Quarters/Guest House other than a living room and a bathroom shall be
deemed to be a bedroom whether so designated or not.
5. Every Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House shall comply
with the Space and Occupancy Standards of the Uniform Housing Code, in
addition to the other applicable regulations.
6.. Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House shall not be rented or
otherwise used as a separate dwelling unit.
7. A covenant in a form approved by the City Attorney shall be
required to be filed for each Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House,
acknowledging that said Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House is not an
additional dwelling unit, and is not to be rented."

Section 2. That Subsection 18 of Section 92921.4. be added to
read as follows:
"18. Accessory Living Quarters/Guest House - regulations
pertaining to occupancy time limits, facilities for the preparation,
heating or cooking of food, and the number of bedrooms."
Section 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Ordinance and shall cause a copy of the same to be published in the
official newspaper of said City within fifteen (15) days after its
adoption.
