AN ORDINnNCE Of THE CITY Of ARCADIA N.1ENDING THE
ARCADIA HUNICIPAL CODE BY REPEALING AND AMENDING
VARIOUS SECTIONS Of AND ADDING SECTIONS TO DIVISIONS
0, 1, 2, 3 AND 5, OP PART 5, CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE IX
THEREOF PERTAINING TO REGULATION OF IDENTIFICATION AND
TEHPORARY SIGNS IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY or' ARCADIA DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS
FOLLO\"!S:
SECTION l. That the Arcadia Municipal Code is hereby amended
by repealing Section 9250.2.4.2.7.
SECTION 2. That the Arcadia Municipal Code is hereby amended
by repealinq Sections 9251.1.7.,9251.1.8.,9251.1.9., '9251.1.9.1.,
9251.1.9.2., 9251.1.9.3., 9251.1.10., and 9251.1.11.
SECTION 3. That the Arcadia Municipal Code is hereby amended
by amending sections 9250.2.4, 9250.2.4.1, 9250.2.4.2, 9250.2.4.2.l,
9250.2.4.2.2,9250.2.4.2.3,9250.2.4.2.4, 9250.2.4.2.5,9250.2.4.2.6
to read as follows:
"9250.2.4. SIGNS. No signsi sign structures or sign devices
of any character shall be permitted in any R-M Residential Mountain-
ous Single-Family Zone, except unlighted signs as hereinafter ..
in this Title specified.
9250.2.4.1. IDENTIFICATION SIGNS. Each dwelling unit
shall have its street number posted so as to be easily seen
from the street. One (ll sign of not to exceed one (1) square
foot in area and containing only the name and address of the
occupant shall be allowed.
9250.2.4.2. TEMPORARY SIGNS. The following signs shall
be permitted on a temporary basis only and shall be located
at least ten (10) feet from adjoining premises and at least
five (5) feet from a paved roadway, provided that where any
sidewalk exists, the location shall be at least three (3) feet
from the sidewalk in the direction of the residence. If a wall
or hedge prevents a sign from being located as provided in this
Division, the sign may be placed immediately adjacent to the
wall or hedge. No sign shall be placed in a location which
interEeres with the visibility of vehicular ingress or egress
to the property or adjoining properties as per the standards
on file with the Planning Department or where such signs may
interfere with or be confused with any traffic signal or device.

9250.2.4.2.1. SAME. One (ll sign not to exceed three

for the purpose of advertising the property for sale, lease
or rent, except corner property may have two (2l such signs.
In lieu of such sign, one (1) sign not exceeding four (4) square
feet in area per face may be mounted on a decorative post and
arm not exceeding six (6) feet in height and of a design approved
by the Planning Department.
9250.2.4.2.2. SMIE. Under each "For Sale" sign, three
(3) smaller signs not to exceed six inches by twenty-four inches
((,"x24"l may be attached to the sign or sign support.
9250.2.4.2.3.' SAME. One (II directional arrow-type sign .
not to exceed one foot by two feet (l'x2'l pointing to the premises
for sille, leilse or rent. The sign may contain the words "~pen
House", on both sign faces.
9250.2.4.2.4. SAME. One (1) directional arrow-type sign
not to exceed onc foot by two feet (l'x2'l may be placed on
private property located at a through street intersection pointing
to\..'at'd the "Open House" during daylight hours. This sign shall
only be permitted if: (l) the owner of said property consents
to such use of his property, and (2l the house offered for sale
is open and attended by the owner or an authorized representative
of the owner during any time the sign is in place. Advertising
copy may be placed on both sign faces.
9250.2.4.2.5. SMIE. Two (2l tempo.ary signs of not to
exceed a total of thirty-two (32) square feet in area each,
advertising the property for sal~, erected and milintained in
a new subdivision during the period an active sales campaign
is being conducted for such subdivision but in no event for
a period longer than six (6l months.
9250.2.4.2.6. SAME. Six (6) temporary signs of not to
. exceed a total of four (4) square feet in area each giving the
names of the contractors, engineers, architects and lending
institution during the period of construction on the premises.
The location of such signs shall be shown on the building plans
and shall be removed prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy
for the premises. "

SECTION 5. That the Arcadia l1uniciTJal Code is hereby amended
by amendinq Section 9253.l.5 to read as follows:
"925J.l.5. SIGNS. No signs, sign structures or sign devices

SECTION 6. That the Arcadia Municipal Code is hereby amended
by amending Section 9255.l.4 to read as follows:
"9255.1.4. SIGNS. No sign.s, sig.n structures or sign devices

SECTION 7. That the Arcadia Municipal Code is hereby amended
by adding Sections 925l.1.6.1, 925l.l.6.2, 9261.1.6.2.1, 9251.1.6.2.2,
925l.l.6.2.3, 925l.1.6.2.4, 925l.1.6.2.5 and 925l.l.6.2.6 to read
as follows:
"9251.1.b.l. IDENTIFICATION SIGNS. Each dwelling unit

SECTION 8. That the Arcadia Municipal Code is hereby amended
by addinq Sections 9253.1.5.1, 9253.1.5.2, 9253.1.5.2.1, 9253.1.5.2.2,
9253.1.5.2.3, 9253.l.5.2.4, 9253:1.5.2.5, 9253.1.5.2.6, and
9253.l.5.2.7 to read as follows:

not to exceed one foot by two feet (l'x2') pointing to the premises
for sale, lease or rent. The sign may contain the Ivords "Open
HOllse", on both sign faces.
9253.1.5.2.4. SAME. One (1) directional arrow-type sign
not to exceed one foot by two feet (l'x2') may be placed on
private property located at a through street intersection pointing

9253.1.5.2.6. SAm::. On properties which are developed

(5) or more dwelling units, one (1) temporary sign of not to
exceed' thirty-two (32) square feet in area, advertising the
property for sale, lease or rent, erected and maintained during
the period an active sales, lease or rental campaign is being
conducted for such new multiple family residential project but
in no event for a period longer than six (6) months.
9253.1.5.2.7. SAME. Six (6) temporary signs of not to
exceed a total of four (4) square feet in area each aivina the

9255.1.4.2.6. SAME. On properties which are developed
with new multiple family residential projects containing five
(5) or more dwelling units, one (1) temporary sign of not to
exceed thirty-two (321 square feet in area, advertising the
property for sale, lease or rent, erected and maintained during
the period an active sales, lease or rental campaign is being,
conducted for such ne\-J multiple family residential project but
in no event for a period longer than six (6) months.
9255.1.4.2.7. SMIE. Six (6) temporary signs of not to
exceed a total of four (4) square feet in area each giving the
names of the contractors, engineer, architect and lending instituti-
on during the period of construction on the premises. The location
of such signs shall be shown on the building plans and shall
be removed prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy for
the premi ses ."

SECTIO~ lO. No person shall violate any provision, or fail to comply with any
of the requirements of this ordinance. Any person violating any of the provisions or
failing to comply with any of the mandatory requirements of this ordinance shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor. Any person convicted of a misdemeanor under any provision of
this ordinance shall be punishable by a fine of not more than Five Hundred Dollars, or
by imprisonment in the City Jailor County Jail for a period not exceeding six months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each such person shall be guilty of a separate
offense for each and every day during any portion of which any violation of any pro-
vision of the ordinance is committed, 'continued, or permitted by such person and shall
be punishable accordingly.
SECTIO~ ll. In addition to the penalties provided in the preceding section, any
condition caused or pennitted .to exist in violation of any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be deeQed a public nuisance and may be, by the City, summarily abated
as such, and each day such condition continues shall be regarded as a new and separate
offense.
SECTION l2. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of
this ordinance is, for any reason, held to be invalid or unconstitutional by the
decision of any court of competent jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the
validity of the re~~ining portions of this ordinance. The City Council of the City
of Arcadia hereby declares that it would have adopted this ordinance and each section,
subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion thereof irrespective of the fact that
anyone or more sections, subsections, sentences, clauses, phrases or portions be
declared invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION l3. Neither the adoption of this ordinance nor the repeal hereby of any
ordinance shall in any manner affect the prosecution for violation of ordinances,
which violations were committed prior to the effective date hereof, nor be construed
as affecting any of the provisions of such ordinance relating to the collection of any
such license or penalty or the penal provisions applicable to any violation thereof,
nor to affect the validity of any bond or cash deposit in lieu thereof, required to
be posted, filed or deposited pursuant to any ordinance and all rights and obligations
thereunder appertaining shall continue in full force and effect.
SECTION 14. The Clerk of the Council shall certify to the passage and adoption
of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published in the official newspaper
of the City of Arcadia within fifteen (15) days after its adoption.
