fi j..ff"t AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF AR-
CADIA EROVIDING SPECIFICATIONS FOR STREET WORK; REGULATING THE WIDTH
OF STREETS, ALLEYS AND PARKWAYS AND ALSO REGULATING THE INSTALLATION
OF WATER'fMAINS IN NEW SUBDIVISIONS IN SAID CITY OF ARCADIA.

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That the public interest and convenience re-
quire and necessity demands that all new subdivisions hereafter laid
out in saId City of Arcadia shall conform to the following:
(a) All Streets must be not lese than sixty (60) feet in
width and not less than thirty (~) feet between curbs, except when

in the judgment of said Board of Trustees, the topography of the
land embraced in the new Subdivision makes such a width of Street
impracticable, in which event the width of euch Streets and the dis-
tance between curbs thereon may be determined in eaoh instance by
said Board of Trustees.
(b) All Streets must be graded to the Official Grade wher-
ever such Official Grade has been established, otherwise to the j
grade established by the City Engineer of said City of Arcadia unde
the direction of said Board of Trustees and shall be paved with'an

edges of said pavement to be of equal distance from the respective

curb lines of any Street so improv;;J\~~ shall be so paved in ac-
cordance with Specifications for such oil macadam pavement duly
adopted and approved by said Board of Trustees and on file in the
offioe of the Street Superintendent of said City of Aroadia.
(0) No street or alley in said new Subdivision shall be
improved with an oil macadam pavement unless the construction of
such macadam pavement shall be done under proper inspection and
under the direction and to the satisfaction of the Street Super-

be borne by the proprietors, owners or sellers of such Subdivision.
(d) All Parkways of a Street sixty (60) feet in width
shall, not exoeed fifteen (15) feet in width nor be less than ten

(e) The proprietors, ownE!rs or selle;rs of any new Subdivision I
shall install all water mains,of such size,as in the opinion of saiJ

Board of Trustees, will be required to serve the lands embraced in I
such Subdivision and the work of installing same shall be done unde~
the direction and to the satisfaction of the Water Superintendent
of said City of Arcadia, provided that all water mains so installed
shall be new Cast Iron Pipe, Grade B, for all sizes ten (10) inches
or under and ten (10) gauge riveted steel wrapped for all sizes in

(f) ,Whenever any Street embraced in a new Subdivision is

stalled to the outside of the curb lines of such Street so as to
conne.ct each separate lot or parcel of, land shown upon the Map of
said Subdivision, except where provision has been made for this
service from an alley, and the cost thereof shall be wholly borne
by the proprietors, owners or sellers of such SubdiviSion.
(g) In all cases where a water connection is desired on
a Street, ~i th~~ ~cliv;;,~~ SuMi vision~ ~hich is paved solid from
curb to curb, requiring the tearing up and replacing of any portion
of such pavement, a charge of Five ($5.00) Dollars per square yard
shall be made in addition to the established charge for the water
connection.
SECTION a: If the proprietors, ,owners pr sellere of such
Subdivision shall desire said Board of Trustees to accept and ap-
prove the Map or Plat thereof prior to the actual doing or comple-
tion of the work hereinabove specified, then said Board of Trus-
teee may accept and approve such Map or Plat, provided however,
that such proprietors, owners or sellers shall execute a good and

sufficient Surety Oompany's Bond to said Oity of Arcadia, for the
benefit and security of the purchaser or purchasers of Lots in such
Subdivision, in an amount which shall equal the estimated cost of
the work hereinabove described, conditioned that all of the work
in such Subdivision shall be completed within such period as shall
be designated by a Resolution duly adopted by said Board of Trus-
tees at a regular meeting of said Board and that such work shall be
done in accordance with the provisions of thi s Ordinance and the
Specifications of said Oity of Arcadia therefor, on file in the
office of said Street Superintendent. In the event of the neglect
or failure of such owners, proprietors or sellers to make such im-
provements in said Subdivision within such period said Bond shall
be declared forfeited and such amount shall be used for the im-

provement of such Subdivision in accordance with the Map or Plat
thereof and the balance, if any, shall be returned to the owners,
proprietors or sellers, who filed said Band, provided however, that
in the event of the acceptance and approval of such Map or Plat
prior to the actual doing of such work, said proprietors, owners
or sellers shall include in their Deed to the purchaser or pur-
chasers of any land within such Subdivision, a stipu1atinn to the
effect that all of the work required to be done shall be done in
accordance with the provisions of this Ordinanoe and the Speoifi-
cations of said Oity of Aroadia therefor.
SECTION 3: This Ordinance is urgently required for the
immediate preservation of the pUblic peaoe, health and safsty, as
said City of Arcadia has no Ordinance providing Speoifications for
street workj regulating the width of streets, alleys and parkways

or regulating the installation of water.mains in new Subdivisions
and new Subdivisions are continually being laid out without proper
and sui table provision: therefor being made and an Ordinance pro-
viding same is immediately required.
SECTION 4: The City Clerk Shall certify to the adoption

of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once

in The Arcadia Journal and The Arcadian, a semi-weekly newspaper
published and circulated in said City of Arcadia and thereupon and
thereafter the same shall take effect and be in force.
The foregoing Ordinance was adopted at a regular meeting
of the Board of Trustees of the City of Arcadia held on the 5th.
day of August, 1925, by the affirmative vote of at least four
Trustees, to-wit:
AYES: Trustees Gramm, Granville, Hawk, and Multer.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Trustee Wheeler.
