December 27, 2011 through December 29, 2011
BACKGROUND
For decades Arcadia High School has been closing off Campus Drive, between Santa Anita
and El Monte, for band practices in preparation for the Festival of Bands. The street closures
will be from 8:05 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. This year the high school has requested the closures on
each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, beginning August 30, 2011 through October 26,
2011 and from December 27, 2011 through December 29, 2011 for Rose Parade practice.
The times for those days would be mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
As in past years, high school staff will set up and remove the barricades before and after the
practices, and there has been no traffic issue with the closures. The high school will provide
the required insurance certificate and obtain a street closure permit from the City. This year,
due to the construction of the Campus Commons Senior project, a plan will need to be
developed so that construction workers, materials and equipment can access the
construction site at times when the band is practicing and staff will coordinate a plan with the
school and developer.
FISCAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
Approve street closure for Arcadia High School Band practices from August 30, 2011 through
October 25, 2011 and from December 27, 2011 through December 29, 2011.

Dear Mr. Penman,
This is our initial request for your assistance in facilitating the use of Campus Drive
adjacent to the High School for Marching Band practice. Because of construction and
our field availability, we may need to use the street more than one day a week during
the months of September and October. The dates requested are August 30 through
October 26. It may be necessary to use the street Tuesday, Wednesday and/or
Thursday each week beginning September 6. Then, through December 22, we would
like to be able to use the street on a daily basis. The time frame for use would be from
8:05 a.m. until 9:05 a.m.
We have been selected as the only Southern CA high school band to march in the
Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day and would also like to use Campus
Drive during Christmas break from December 27 through December 29. The times for
those days would be mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Barricades will be put at both ends of Campus Drive, from Santa Anita to El Monte
Avenues indicating that the street is in use on those days only. We understand that
limited access to Campus Drive will continue to be maintained as required and we will
adhere to past practice for ensuring vehicle and pedestrian safety.
A certificate of insurance will be sent to the city by our district business office. If you
require any additional information, please feel free to contact me at 626 821-1711.
Thank you for your assistance.
Sincerely,
37„,..„..--- „.
