AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY-OF ARCADIA
REGULATING THE KEEPING OF DOGS IN, SAID CITY OF ARCApIA.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF, ARCADIA DO ORDAIN AS

FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That it shall be unlawful for any person,
firm or corporation to keep more than three dogs, over the age of
six months each, in any place in said City of Arcadia, within two-
hundred and fifty feet of any dwelling house, 1n use or occupied.
by human beings, other than a dwelling house, belonging to the own~
er of such dogs.
SECTION 2: That it shall be unlawful for any persorl,
firm or corporation to carryon the business, in said City of Ar-
cadia, of keeping dogs for breeding purposes or for the purpose
, \
of medical treatment of dogs or caring for dogs for hire, withou~
first obtaining a permit from the City Council of said City~f
,Arcadia so to do and said City Council shall have the right to
grant or refuse such permit, in its discretion, provided that if
-
said City Council shall grant such perm~t, said City Council may
p~escribe such conditions as it ~ay deem necessary or advisable
to prevent such busin~ss becoming a nuisance.
SECTION 3: That it shall be unlawful for any person,
firm or corporation to keep four or more dogs, over the age of.
six months each, in said City of Arcadia at anyone place or in
any premises in said City of Arcadia, in the charge or control
of any person and over two hundred and fifty feet from any dwell-
ing house, in use or Oc?upied,by hJm~~ beings, ?ther than that of

the owner of such dogs, without first obtaining a permit from
said City Council so to do and 'said City Council may grant or
refuse such permit, in its discretion, provided that if such per-
mit is granted, said City Council may prescribe such conditions
as it may deem advisable or necessary to prevent the keeping of
such dogs becoming a nuisance.

SECTION 4:

I
That any person, firm or corporation vio-
lating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be
punished by a fine not exceeding $300.00 or by imprisonment in
the County Jail of the County of Los Angeles, State of California
for a period not exceeding three months, or by botp.,'such fine
and imprisonment.
SECTION 5: The City Clerk shall certify to the adop-
tion of this Ordinance qnd shall cause the same to be published
once in The Arcadia News, a weekly newspaper published and cir-
culated in said City and 'thirty days from and after the final
passage thereof, the same shall take effect and be in force.
The foregoing Ordinance was adopted at a regular meet-
ing of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, held on the 16th.
day of May, 1928, by the affirmative vote of at least three Coun-
cilmen, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen, Bolz, Granville, Holt, Multer and
Schermerhorn,
NOES: None,
and signed and approved this 16th. day of May" 1928.
