AN ORDINA~CE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
REGULATING THE DISCHARGE AND USE OF FIRE WORKS IN SAID CITY OF
ARCADIA.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DO ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:

SECTION l: That it shall be unlawful for any person, ex-
cept as hereinafter specified, to light, fire, shoot, discharge,
set off or explode any torpedo, rocket, firecracker, squib ~r
other fireworks or blank cartridges or small arms or anything
containing any proportion of any substance of an explosive nature,

within the corporate limits of said City of Arcadia.
SECTION 2: Said City/Council may permit any person, firm.
corporation, association or organization to conduct a publiq cel-
, , ~
ebration or fireworks display and for that purpose-to use and
discharge fireworks at such times and such places in the City of
Arcadia situate South of'Foothill Boulevard and under such rules
and conditions as said City Council may fix and establish upon
granting such permission, and provided further that said City
Council may permit the public generally to use and discharge fire-
works on the FOURTH DAY OF JULY of each and every year at such
times and such places in the City of Arcadia situate South of
Foothill Boulevard and under such rules and conditions duri~
said day as said City Council shall fix and establish upon grant-
ing such permission, provided that if said FOURTH DAY OF JULY in
any year falls on Sunday, said City Council may grant the privileg
in this Section specified on the FIFTH DAY OF JULY instead of said
FOURTH DAY OF JULY.
SECTION 3. It shall be unlawful for any parent, guar-

dian or other person having the legal care and custody of any
child in said City of Arcadia under the age of fourteen Years, to
allow, permit or suffer such child to'fire, shoot, discharge,
set off or explode within said Oity of Arcadia, any torpedo, rocke
firecracker, squib or other fireworks or blank cartridges or any

substance containing material of any explosive nature, provided,
however, this provision snaIl not apply to said FOURTH DAY OF
JULY of any year '(or said FIFTH DAY OF JULY of any year as pro-
vided in Section' 2 ,of this Ordinance) in the event said City C,oun-
cil shcll grant perm1ssion for the use and discharge of fireworks
on either of said days as provided in Section 2 of tnis Ordinance
and when such use and discharge of fireworks shal~ be in accord-
ance with the rules and conditions specified by said City Council

in granting such permission.
SECTION 4: That it shall be unlawful for any

or corporation to sell or cause or permit to be sold, any blank

cartridge, firecracker or other fireworks within said City of
Arcadia except upon the THI?D and FOURTH days of July of each
and every year and upon securing a permit from said City Council
so to do upon such terms and condi hons as may be specified by "
said City Council ~n granting such permitj'provided however, that
if said FOURTH DAY OF JULY in any year falls on Sunday, such
permit may be extended to include the FIFTH DAY OF JULY in said

year.
SECTION 5: That any person, firm or corporation violating
any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of
a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable
by a fine not exceeding $300.00 or by imprisonment in the City
Jail of said City of Arcadia or in the County Jail of the County
of Los Angeles, State of ~alifornia, at the discretion of the
Committing Magistrate, f~r a term not exceedi~g three months or
by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 6: The, City Clerk shall certify to the adoptio~

of tnis Ordinance and shall cause the same to be pUblished once

R~ffil~, in The Arcadia News, a weekly newspaper published and circulated

J~ ' within said City and thirty days from and after the final pas-

sage thereof the same shall take effect and be in force.

The foregoing Ordinance was adopted at a, regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia held on the
20th. day of February, 1929. by the affirmative vote of at least
tnree Councilmen, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen, Bolz, Granville, Holt, Multer and
Scnermerhorn,
NOES: None,
and signed and approved tnis 20th. day of February, 1929.
