AN ORDINANOE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
AMENDING ORDINANCE.. NO. 33 OF SAID OITY OF ARCADIA BY ADDING THERE
TO A NEW SEOTION TO BE NUUBERED 57-C, PROVIDING FOR THE REDEMPTION
OF PROPERTY SOLD TO THE OITY OF ARCADIA FOR DELINQUENT TAXES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DO ORDAIN AS FOL-
LOWS:
SECTION l: That Ordinance No. 33 of the City of Arcadia
entitled: IAn Ordinance of the City of Aroadia providing for the
assessment: and oollection of Oity Taxes and repealing Ordinances
Nos. 9 and 12 of said City of Aroadia., adopted b'ebruary 4, 1913,
be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto a new Section
to be known and numbered section 57-0 and to read as follows:
. SECTION 57-C: In all cases where real estate has been
sold, or may hereafter be sold to the City ~or delinquent taxes
and the City bas not disposed of the same, the person whose estate
has been or may hereafter be sold, his heirs, executors, adminis-
trators or other suocessors in interest, shall, at any time after
the same has been sold to the City and before the City shall have
disposed of the same, have the right to redeem such real estate
by paying to the Oity Treasurer of the Oity of Arcadia, the amoun
of taxes, penalties for delinquenoy and costs due thereon at the
time of such sale, and also all taxes that were a lien upon said
real property at the time said taxes beoame delinquent, and also
all unpaid taxes of every desoription assessed against the proper
ty for each year since the sale, as shown on the delinquent Asses -
ment Rolls in the then permanent custody of the City Olerk, or if
not so assessed, then upon the value of the property as assessed
in the year nearest the time of such redemption, and also all
oosts and expenses of suoh redemption, and penalt1es as follows,
to-wi t:
One per cent per month, if redeemed within five years
from JUly first of the year of sale; if not redeemed within five
years from July first of the year _of'sale, one per oent per month
for a period of five years and at the rate of one-half of one per

cent per month thereafter to the time of redempt~on. The penalty
shall be computed from July first of the year of sale upon the
amount of taxes delinquent at the time of sale, and upon the amoun
of eaoh year's taxes in like manner, reckoning from the first day
of July of the year when the property would have been sold for the
taxes of that year, if there had been no prev10us sale.
The Oity Olerk, shall, on the application of the .person
desiring to redeem, make an estimate of the amount to be pa1d, an
shall give him dup11cate certificates of the amount, specifying
the several amounts thereof. which oert1ficates the redempt10ner
shall de11ver to the Oity Treasurer, together with the moner, and
the Oity Treasurer shall give duplicate rece1pts, writt~n or 1n-
dorsed upon sa1d oertificates, one to the redemp~ioner, and one
to the C1ty Clerk.
Upon consummation of the redemptionand delivery of the
rece1pts aforesaid by the Treasurer, the Treasurer shall report
. the same to the City Clerk, and the 01 ty Olerk shall, without pay
ment of fee, note on the margin of the record of the certif1cate
of sale, or deed, if issued, the fact of suoh redemption, the
date thereof, and by whom redeemed, which cert1ficate of sale, or
deed, , shall beoome null. and void, and all right, title and 1nter-
est aoquired by virtue of the tax sale, shall cease and determine
SECTION 2: This Ordinance is deolared to be an urgenoy
measure neces~ry for the immediate preservation of the publio
peace, health and safety and the faots constituting such neoess-
ity are as follows: .
By reason- of the present economio oris1s many persons
are unable to pay taxes on property. Large revenues will be lost
to the City of Arcadia and a large amount of taxable property wil
be removed from the Assessment Rolls unless immediate relief is
given. In order to afford this relief, and to relieve the alread
overburdened taxpayer, it is necessary that this Ordinance take

effect immediately.
SEOTION 3: The City Olerk shall oertify to the adoption
of this Ordinance and shall oause the same to be published once
in The Arcadia News, a wsekly newspaper published and circulated
in said City of Arcadia, and thereupon and thereafter the same
shall take effect and be 1n force.

The foregoing Ordinance was adopted at a regular meet-
ing of the Oity Oounoil of the City of Arcadia, held on the 17th.
day of April, 1934, by the affirmative vote of at least four.
