ORDINANCE NO. 2151
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING THE ARCADIA
HISTORICAL MUSEUM COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the history of Arcadia is important to the citizens of the Arcadia
community; and
WHEREAS, a new 4000-square-foot facility was constructed, is named "Ruth and
Charles Gilb" Arcadia Historical Museum and was dedicated on October 20, 200 I; and
WHEREAS, this new facility houses items that are representatiye of the City's rich
history; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has appropriated funds to ensure that a professional
curator is hired to oversee the function of the museum and intends to appropriate funds
for the maintenance and operation ofthe facility; and
WHEREAS, the operation and maintenance of this facility and the oversight of
the curator will require a more structured framework.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA,
CALIFORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Article II, Chapter 2 ofthe Arcadia Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding Part 9 to read in its entirety as follows:

PART 9.
ARCADIA HISTORICAL MUSEUM COMMISSION
DIVISION 1
CREATION, MEMBERSHIP AND MEETINGS
2290. CREATION. A Historical Museum Commission is hereby established for
the purpose of adyising the City Council on matters relating to the "Ruth and Charles
Gilb" Arcadia Historical Museum.
2290.1. MEMBERSHIP. The Arcadia Historical Museum Commission shall
consist of seven (7) members appointed by the City Council. For this purpose, the City
Council shall consider the appointment of four (4) members suggested by the Arcadia
Historical Society, two (2) members suggested by the City Council, and one (I)
member suggested by the Library Board of Trustees. In addition, the Historical
Museum Commission shall haye one (1) ex-officio non-voting member, who shall be a
member of City staff appointed by the City Manager or his/her designee.
2290.2. TERMS, APPOINTMENTS AND REMOVAL.
Members of the
Historical Museum Commission shall be appointed and removed in accordance with
Section 802 of the City Charter; proyided; howeyer, that the ex-officio member shall be
a member of City staff.

2290.3. MEETINGS; CHAIRPERSON. Meetings of the Historical Museum
Commission shall take place and be conducted, and its officers shall be elected, in
accordance with Section 804 of the City Charter; provided, however. that the Historical
Museum Commission shall meet at a regularly scheduled time and place on a monthly
basis as designated by Commission By-laws.
2290.4. DUTIES. Subject to review and approval of the City Council, the
Historical Museum Commission shall:
a. Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the
"Ruth and Charles Gilb" Arcadia Historical Museum, collections and
programs.
b. Deyelop a mission statement and identify goals for the Museum.
c. Create a collections committee and deyelop a collections policy.
d. Encourage the interest and participation of the community in preserying and
celebrating the history of Arcadia.
e. Perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the City Council."
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Ordinance and
shall cause a copy of same to be published in the official newspaper of the City of
Arcadia within fifteen (15) days after its adoption.

foregoing Ordinance No. 2151 was passed and adopted by the City Council of the City
of Arcadia, signed by the Mayor and attested to by the City Clerk at a regular meeting
of said Council held on the 20th day ofNoyember, 2001 and that said Ordinance was
adopted by the following vote, to wit:
