ORDINANCE NO. 718
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THZ CITY OF ARCADIA,
AI.iEIlDBG ORDHANCE NO. 472 OF SAID CITY, PERTAINING TO
THE ER::i:CTION AND l,iAINTENANCE OF SIGNS IN crn PARKWAYS
UNDER 0ERTAIN CIRCU~STANCES.
THE Crry COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARChDIA, C J-L IFORNIA, DOES
ORDkIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Section 3 of Ordinance No. 472, of the City of
Arcadia, entitled, "An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of
Arcadia permitting the erection and maintenance of signs in City
Parkways under certain circumstances: regulating said signs, and
providing a penalty for the violation thereof", adopted December 2,
1941, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 3. Any sign erected, placed, attached or maintained
by permission of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, under
the provisions of this Ordinance, shall be of Neon Type against
a metal background and the maximum size of such sign may be
limited by the City Council at the time of granting the permit
therefor. Such sign shall be supported by a cast iron or steel
pipe not less than four inches in diameter, which said pipe
shall be set in concrete for a depth of not less than five (5')
feet; such siGn shall be not less than eie;ht (8') feet above
the sidewalk or ground level adjacent to said street, and no
part of said sign shall extend \'.'ithin twelve (12") inches of
the curb line of such street. Provided that the granting of
a permit by the City Council for a sign to be placed or
erected on any parIDyay adjacent to a State highway in the
City of Arcadia shall be subject to the applicable regulations
of the California Highway Commission in force at the time of
the granting of such permit."
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from
the passage thereof, shall cquse the s~e to be published once in the

Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia News, a newspaper of general circulation,
published and circulated in the City of Arcadia, and thirty days from
and after the final passage thereof said Ordinance shall take effect
and be in forl)e.
I m~REBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 3]~d day of August, 1948, by the affirmative vote of at
least three Councilmen, to wit:

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, OR,
DERING THE VACATION AND
ABANDONMENT OF A PORTION
OF THAT CERTAIN STREET
KNOWN AS GOLDEN WEST
ROAD, LYING NORTHERLY OF
HUGO REID DRIVE. IN SAID
CITY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ARCADIA DOES OR-
DAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the publiC in-
terest and convenience require and
this City Council, in pursuance of
the provisions of Resolution of In-
tention No, 1769, adopted May 18,
1948, after a public hearing a,.nd'
upon a finding that the hereinafter
designated portion of a certain pUb-
lic street is unnecessary for present
or prospective public purpo.ses, does
hereby order the following improve-
ment to be made, "to-wit:
That all that certain portion of
Golden West Road, a public
street in the City of Arcadia,
County of Los Angeles, State of
California, lying northerly of
Hugo Reid Drive, as shown on
map of Tract No, 13312, re-
corded in Book 268, pages 5 and
6 of Maps, in th~ office of the
County Recorder of Los Angeles
County,
be and the same is hereby vacated
and abandoned for street purposes,
as contemplated by Resolution of
Intention No, 1769, adopted and
approved on May 18, 1948, the City
of Arcadia hereby reserving and
excepting from said vacation the
permanent easement ar..d right at
any time, or from time to time, to
construct, maintain, operate, re-
place, remove and renew sanitary
sewers and storm drains and ap-
T purtenant structures in, upon, over
and across said portion of such
street and pursuant to any existing
franchises or renewals thereof, or
otherwise, to construct, maintain,
operate, replace, remove, renew and
enlarge lines of pipe, conduits, ca-
bles, wires, poles and other con-
venient structures, equipment and
fixtures for the operation of gas

pipe lines, telegraphic and telephone
lines and~ for .the transportation or
distribution of electric energy, pe-
troleum and its products, ammonia,
water and' incidental purposes, in-
cluding access and the righ,t to
keep the 'property free from inflam-
mable materials and wood growth,
and otherwise to protect the sam~
from aII' hazards in, upon and over
the said street or portion thereof
herein vacated.
SECTION 2, That said work is
for' the closing up, vacation and
abandonment of the street described
in Section 1 hereof and it appears
to said City Council that there are
no damages, costs or expenses aris_
ing' out of said work, and that no
assessment is necessary for said
work and therefore no commIs-
sioners are appointed to assess the
costs or damages for said V?~rk or
to have supervIsion thereof,
SECTION 3, The City Clerk shall
certify to the adoption of thi:S Or-
dinance and prior to the expiration
of fifteen (15) days from the pas-
sage thereof, shall cause the .same
to be published once In the Arca-
dia Tribune and Arcadia News, a
newspaper of general circulation in
the City of Arcadia, and thirty (30)
days from and after the final pas-
