HomeMy WebLinkAbout0734 '-..., \ 1\- , ' 1(' ORDINANCE NO. 734 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA AMENDING SECTION 9 (d) of "UNIFORM ELECTRICAL CODE, 1947 EDITION", HERETOFORE ADOPTED BY THE PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 709 OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, ADOPTED JUNE 2, 1948, AND A:ODmG A NE\'1 SECTION THERETO TO BE KNOWN AS AND NUMBERED 6.1. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. ~hat Ordinance No. 709 of the City of Arcadia, entitled "An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, California, to be known as the Uni~orm Electrical Code of the City of Arcadia, creating the office of Chief Electrical Inspector, prescribing his duties and authority; providing for the issuance of electrical permits and for inspections an& fixing the fees therefor; regulating the installation, arrangement, al- teration, repair oaintenance and oper~ion of electric wiring, electric fixtures, and other electrical appliances and eqlipment; providing a penalty for violal;ion of the same; repealing Ordinance Number 128 of the. City of Arcadia, and all other ordinances and parts of ordinances in con- flict therewith, and adopting by reference that certain printed Electrical Code printed in book form entitled 'Uniform Electrical COde', published by the Pacific Coast Electrical Bureau, three copies of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk for use and examination by the public", adopted June 2, U148, be and the same is hereby amended by adding to said "Uniform Electrical Code" a new section to bear the additional nu.lllber in- dicated for convenient insertion in said Code and to read as follows: "Section 6.1. All electrical wiDing and equipment in any building or structcwe designed for use as an apartment house, as defined in the Unifor~ Building Code, or in any building or structure designed for commercial or industrial occupancy and including all places of pUblic assembly, shall be installihd in approved metal raceways." SECTION 2. That Section 9 (d) of said "Uniform Electrical Code", as adopted by the provisions of said Ordinance No. 709, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 9 (d). Every service shall be installed in rigid conduit -1- .-105XC:C C-tc./ 7.3 Y \...'''': , or electrical metallic t~bing when installed with water proof i- joints. Minimum size of service raceway shall be one inch." SECTION 3. This ordinance is urgently required for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety and the facts constituting such urgency are as fellows: numerous applications are pending at the present time for permiss,ion to erect buildings and other structures for commercial and apartment purposes without adequate provision for protection from the hazards of fire and the erection of such buildings and other structures will result in an unhealthy, unsafe and otherwise undesirable building program and will seriously injure and injuriously affect the program planned for the development of the city of Arcadia on a safe, sound and modern basis. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published once in the Arcadia. Tribune and Arcadia News, a newspaper published and circulated in said City of Arcadia, and thereupon and thereafter the same shall take effect and be in force.
