S~CTION 1. TDat Section 7 of Ordin&nce No. 439 of the City of
hrcadia entitled "An Ordinance of the Cit;>f Council of the City of
Arcadia, establishing in said Cit;)' of Arcadia, zones or districts and
reLulatinG ther'3in the use of ~roperty, height of buildings and requir-
ine open spaces for liLht and ventilation; to re~ulate and restrict the
locution of trades und industries and the location of buildings desiGned
for specified l1.3CS;- pro,iding for the enforcemEnt and prescribinG pen-
alties for the violation thereof" adopted June 28, 1940, be and the
same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECTION 7. ZOi,E C-l RE.STRICTED BUS INESS DISTRICT.
Except as otherYlise provided herein no building, structure,
improvemen';;, lot or premises shall be used and no building,
structure or improvement shall be erected, constructed, established,
altered or enlarged in Zone C-l which is designed, erranged or
intended to be occupied or used for any purpose other than the
follol'ling:
(a) Any use permitted in Zones R-1A, R-l, R-2, R-3.,
(b) Hutomobile ~arkinc; lots for use in conneccion with
business where no charbe is made for parking, new automobile parts
stores, banks, barber shops, beauty parlors, baseball ~arks, dress-
making, embroidery and millinery shops, ice cream parlors, retail
bakery stores, retail grocery stores, delicatessen stores, fruit
stores, retail meat markets, dressed poultry (provided, that no
live poultl'Y shall be kept or maintained on the premises), drug
stores, hardware stores for nevI hardware only, notions stores,
stationery stores, c~ndy and confectionery stores, candy making,
dry Loods 1ltores, wearinr, apparel stores, flovler shops and sales

rooms, jewelry and watch ;repair, book stores, rental libraries,
self-service laundries,
laundry agencies~retail cleaning and d~eing (provided the
business is limitdd to retail cleaning, pressine, repairing and
dyeing), professional and business offices, artists' studios,
music studios or conservatories, tailor shops, shoe repair shops,
sign ~ainting shops, bootblack stands, commercial garages,
gasoline service stations, automobile tire repair and sales shops
(provided there is no rebuilding, retreading or manufacturing of
tires), real estate brokers offices, insurance agents, cafes or
restaurants in the event that no dancinG, theatrical performance
or an~ entertainment of any nature be maintained conducter or
permitted therein or in connection there~ith, tea room, retail
furniture stores, (provided that no less than eighty (80) per
cent of the stock in the store or on the premises shall be new
and unused furniture). Second hand furniture stores will not be
permitted in Zone C-l. Any other similar enterprises or businesses
which, in the opinion of the Planning Commission as evidenced by
a resolution adopted by the Planning Commission and approved by
order entered in the minutes or resolution of the City Council,
are not more obnoxious or detrimental to the particular community
than the enterprises or business enumerated under sub-section (a)
and (b) of Section Seven (7)."
S~CTIOil 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from the
passage thereof, shall cause the same to be published once in the
Arcadia Tribune and rlrcadia News, a neus~a~er of general circulation,
published and circulated in the City of Arcadia, and thirty (30) days
from and after the final passage thereof said Ordinance shall take
affect and be in force.
I HEH~BY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was adopted at a
regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, held on

the 21st day of December, 1948, by the affirmative vote of at least
three Councilmen, to wit:
