ORDINANCE NO. 675:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 630 OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, ADOPTED
FEBRUARY 18, 1947/, AND PROVIDING FOR THE USE OF TAXIMETERS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES.
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:'
SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 630 of the City of Arcadia, adopted
and approved February 18, 194~, and entitled "An Ordinance of the
City Council of the City of Arcadia, providing for the supervision
and regulation of the transportation of persons for compensation
upon the public streets and prescribing penalties for the violation
thereof"', is hereby amended by adding thereto a new section, des-
ignated as "13A" to follow immediately after Section 13 of said:
Ordinance, which Section 13A shall read as follows::
"SECTION 13.1\.. (ar No owner operating any automobile for
hire shall operate such automobile unless it is equipped with
a taximeter of such type and design as may be approved by the

~\\\).~o~ llrl City Council. Every owner using any taximeter shall at all
C!') times keep) flUCh meter accurate. Such meter shall be subject
to inspection from time to time. Any police officer of the
City of Arcadia is authorized at his instance, or upon the
complaint of any person, to investigate such taximeter., andl
upon the discovery of any inaccuracy of said taximeter to
remove any such automobile equipped with such taximeter from
the streets until said taximeter shall have been correctly
adjusted.
(b) All putomobiles for hirelmust base their
charges on taximeters, and all taximeters shall be placed SO)
that the reading dial showing the amount to be charged shall
be well lighted and readily discernible by the passenger- riding
in such automobile.
(c) No driver of an automobile for hire while
carrying passengers shall display the flag attached to: the

taximeter in such a position as to denote that such automobile
i6 not employed, or throw the flag of the taximeter in a
recording position when such automobile is not actually em-
ployed, 01' fail to throw the flag of such taximeter in a non-
recording position at the termination of each and every service.
(d} No operator of any automobile for hire, upon
receiving payment of a fare as indicated by the taximeter
thereon shall refuse to give a receipt upon the request of any
passenger making said payment.
(a) No person shall charge, collect}demand, receive
or arrange for any compensation for the service of any automobile
for hire in this City, used for the conveyance of passengers, any
amount, rate or compensation greater than the charges or rates,
herein set forth:'
The maximum rates or fares to be charged the public:
by metered automobiles for hire operating over any street shall
be, and the same are hereby fixed, as follows:: The maximum
ratas of fara shall be twenty-five (25) cents for the first
four-fifths, (4/5) mila or fraction thereof; ten (10) cents,
for each additional two-fifths (2/5)' mila or fraction thereof;
ten (10): cents for aach two minute~~time, twenty-five
(25), cents for each additional passenger over one and a dis-
missal charge of One Dollar ($1.00) for each ten miles or
fraction thereof outside and beyond the City limits of the
City of Arcadia.
No rate shall be placed in effact, charged, demanded
or collected for service of an automobile for hire unti~ the
City Council shall have approved and established said rate.
The City Council shall have power, upon a hearing upon its!
own motion or upon complaint, to investigate a single rate
or fare, or the entire schedule of rates in effect and t~

establish a new rate or schedule of rates in lieu thereof.
SECTION 2.:. The City Clerk of said City shall certify to the
adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published
once in the Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia News, a newspaper of general
circulation, published and circulated in said City of Arcadia, and
thi~ty days (~O) from and after the final passage hereof, the same
shall take effect and be in force.
I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT the foregoing Ordinance was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 21st day of OctOber, 194~, by the affirmative vote of
at least three c,ouncilmen. to wit::
