ORDINANCE NO. 625
AN ORD INANCE OF THE CITY COUNC It OF THE CITY OF ARC AD IA
AMENDING SECTIONS 9 AND 10 OF ORDINANCE NO. 431, ADOPTED
MARCH 5, 1940.
WHEREAS, under the provisions of Ordinance No. 431, adopted
March 5, 1940, and under the Drovisions of Ordinance No. 438,
adopted June 28, 1940, the following positions were not included
in the competitive service but were specifically excepted from
the operation of the personnel system aaopted thereunder by the
City of Arcadia, to wit: Chief of Police, Chief of'the Fire
Department, City Engineer, Street Superintendent and Water
Superintendent, and
\VHEREAS, the public interest, convenience, safety and
general welfare require occasional modification of the require-
ments for eligibility to certain of such positions:
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
California, does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That Section 9 of Ordinance No. 431 of the
City of Arcadia entitled "An Ordinance of the City Council of
the City of Arcadia creating and establishing a personnel
system for said City", adopted March 5, 1940, be and the same
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"SECT ION 9. CHIEF OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. The Chief
of the Police Department shall be appointed by the City Council
and after the appointment shall be removed at the pleasure of
the City'Council. If appointed from among the members of the
Police Department of the City of Arcadia, the dismissal or
removal of the Chief of the Police Department from office shall
not accomplish his dismissal from the Department, and upon such
dismissal as Chief of Police he shall be restored to the rank
and grade held by him prior to his appointment as the Chief of
the Police Department."
SECTION 2. That Section 10 of Ordinance No. 431 of the
City of Arcadia entitled "An Ordinance of the City Council of

the City of Arcadia creating and establishing a personnel
system for said Cityll, adopted March 5, 1940, be and the
same is hereby amended to read as follows:
lISECTION lO. CHIEF OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. The Chief
of the Fire Department shall be appointed by the City Council
and after the appointment shall be removed at the pleasure of
the City Council. If appointed from among the members of ~e
Fire Department of the City of Arcadia, the dismissal or
removal of the Chief of the Fire Department from office shall
not accomplish his dismissal from the Department, and upon such
dismissal as Chief of the Fire Department he shall be restored
to the rank and grade held by him prior to his appointment as
the Chief of the Fire Department.1I
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15)
days from the passage thereof, shall cause the same to be
published once in the Arcadia Tribune and News, a newspaper
of general circulation, published and circulated in the City
of Arcadia, and thirty (30) days from and after the final
passage thereof said Ordinance shall take effect and be in
force.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordi~ance was adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the 4th day of February , 1947, by the affirmative
vote of at least three Councilmen, to wit:
