ORDINANCE NO. 515.
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DECLARING THE KEEPING OF
HORSES, PONIES, MULES, COLTS, JACKS OR JENNIES, WITHIN SAID CITY UNDER
CERTAIN CONDITIONS TO BE A NUISANCE AND REGULATING THE KEEPING, MAIN-
TAINING AND RIDING OF SAID ANIMALS WITHIN SAID CITY AND REPEALING
ORDINANCES NOS. 434, 443, AND 466. .
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is hereby declared to be a nuisance and it
shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to keep or main-
tain in the City of Arcadia, any horses, ponies, mules, colts, jacks or
jennies, other than in accordance with the following provisions:
(a) No such animal or animals shall be kept or maintained
within one hundred (1001) feet of any dwelling house in use or occupied
by any human being other than the residence or dwelling house of the
person maintaining or keeping such animal or animals except in Zone M-l
and Zone M-2 of the City of Arcadia as described in Ordinance 439 of
said City approved June 28, 1940.
(b) No such animal or animals shall be kept or maintained
within forty (40') feet of any dwelling house in use or occupied by any
human being other than the residence or dwelling house of the person
maintaining or keeping such animal or animals in Zone M-l and Zone M-2
of the City of Arcadia as described in Ordinance 439 of said City,
approved June 28, 1940.
(c) No such animal shall be stabled, kept or maintained within
seventy-five (751) feet of any public street, in any stable, barn or
similar enclosure designed for confining or sheltering such animal or
animals, except in Zone M-l and Zone M-2 of the City of Arcadia, as
described in Ordinance 439 of said City, approved June 28, 1940.
(d) The premises in which such animal or animals are kept shWU
be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition so that no offensive smell
be allowed to escape fuerefrom; and provided further that manure and refuse
material from such animal or anima~ shall not be allowed to accumulate
for a greater period than one week unless the same is kept in a contain~
inaccessible to flies, and provided further that all such manure and re-
fuse material shall be removed from the premises where such animal or
animals are kept at least once every two weeks.

SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or cor-
poration to lead, drive or ride any such animal or animals in or upon
~ any lawn, or garden or in and upon any planted parkway within said City

O~.~ of Arcadia, unless said parkway has theretofore by Resolution of the

City Council of the City of Arcadia, been declared to be and designated
as a bridle path.
SECTION 3. That the follovung Ordinances be and the same are
hereby repealed:
Ordinance No. 434 heretofore adopted on the 21st day of May,
1940;
Ordinance No. 443 amending said Ordinance No. 434 heretofore
adopted on the 20th day of August, 1940;
Ordinance No. 466 amending said Ordinance No. 434 heretofore
adopted on the 21st day of October, 1941.
SECTION 4. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not more
than Three Hundred ($300.00) Dollars, or by imprisonment in the City Jail
of said City of Arcadia, or in the County Jail of the County of Los
v Angeles, State of California, at the discretion of the Commiting Magistrate
for a period not exceeding three (3) months or by both such fine and
imprisonment.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from the
passage thereof, shall cause the same to be published once in the Arcadia
Tribune and Arcadia News, a newspaper of general circulation, published
and circulated in the City of Arcadia, and thirty (30) days from and
after the final passage thereof said Ordinance shall take effect and be
in force.
