SECTION 1. Horses Defined.
The l'lOrd "horse" as used in this Ordinance shall be held to mean
any quadruped mainly used for rid ins or bridle purposes, whether said
horse is used exclusively by its ovmer or is rented out for profit.
SECTIOl'T 2. That it shall be unlawful for any person, firI:! or
corpor~tion to do any of the acts prohibited in the followinS sections
of this Ordinance.
SECTION 3. That no person shall ride any horse upon any sideTIalk
or footpath along any of the strects of the City of Arcadia except in
the necessary act of crossing the same.

City of Arcadia unless said parkway has heretofore by resolution of the
COtU1cil of the Cit;r of Arcadia bee,n declared to be and designated as a
bridle path.
SECTION 5. That no person shall ride any horse on any street or
alley of the City of Arcadia faster than a slow canter.
SECTION 6. That no person shall stop any horse on or over any
sidewalk, footpath or cross walk.
SECTION 7. That no person shall ride any horse upon any of the
streets of the City of Arcadia in a reckless manner or in any such
manner as to endanger the property or life and limb of any person.
SECTION 8.
That persons riding horses upon any street in the
City of Arcadia shall not ride more than two (2) abreast.
SECTION 9. That no person riding any horse or persons riding
horses upon any of the streets of the City of Arcadia shall yell, make
undue noise, or conduct themselves in a hilarious manner.
SECTION 10. (a) That no person shall ride any hOI'se along the
roadway of any street or alley of the City of Arcadia in such a manner

as to be an annoyance or nuisa~ce to the residents of said street or
neighborhood.
(b) It is hereby declared that the riding of any horse con-
tinuously and repeatedly upon any street, riding in groups of more than
four (4), riding faster than a slow canter, or raising clouds of dust
shall be such annoyance and nuisance as prohibited in clause (a) of
this Section.
SECTION 11. That no person shall ride any horse upon any private
~~~tED property without the permi ssion of the o\mer thereof; and any person
/4 riding any' horse upon any prj,vate property shall be deemed to be an
unlavlful trespasser upon SE.id property and the burden shall be upon sach
person, upon prosecution for the violation thereof, to prove that he
has ridden such horse upon such property with the consent or permission
of the owner thereof.
SECTION 12.
It shall be unlawful to ride any horse upon any
public street or highvlSY within the City of Arcadia, before the hour
of 6:00 o'clock, A.M. and after the hour of 10:00 o'clock, P.IiI. on
any day.
SECTION 13. It shall be unlawful to throw any rock, missile or
other substances at any horse or its rider. It shall be unlawful for
the operator or driver of any automobile or mechanical power driven
vehicle on approaChing or passing any horse being ridden or driven upon
any public street or highway within the City of Arcadia, to manipulate
any mechanical devise on said automobile or vehicle in such a manner
as would reasonably be expected to cause any horse to become frightened
or alarmed to such an extent as to endanger the safety or well being
of its rider or driver.

SECTION 14. That Section 2. of Ordinance No. 515. of the City of

Arcadia, entitled II Ordinance of the City of Arcadia declaring the keeping
of horses, ponies, mules, colts, jacks or jennies, within said city tmder
certain conditions to be a nuisance and regulatinG the keeping, main-
taining and riding of said animals within said city and repealin~
Ordinances Nos. 434, 443 end 466.11, adopted on the 6th tlay of June, 1944,
be and the sa~e is hereby repealed.

SECTION 15. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor, and upon conviction tr~reof shall be punishable by a fine of
not more than Three Hundred ($300.00) Dollars, or by imprisonment in the
City Jail of said City of Arcadia, or in the County Jail of the County
of Los Anseles, state of California, at the discretion of the Coamitting
Magis tra te for a period of not exceedins three (3) months or by both such
fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 16. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from the
passage thereof, shall cause the same to be published once in the Arcadia
Tribune and Arcadia News, a newspaper of general circulation, published
and circulated in the City of Areadia, and thirty (30) days from and
after the final pas saSe thereof said Ordinance shall take effect and be
in force.
