That Section 4 of Ordinance No. 126 of the City of Arcadia, adopted September 19, 1923, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follo~s: SJ!lCTION 4. Every house or buildin~ in v'11ich plumbing fixtures are installed and which is not connected crith a sewer, shall be connected with a cesspool, or septic tank. Said Cesspool shall be not less than five (5) feet from any property line and not less than ten (10) feet from any building. Every cesspool shall be dug to a ,depth of not less than thirty (30) feet from the surface of the ground; provided that where a strata of gravel tbree (3) feet in thickness is found, the depth need not be more than t~elve (12) feet from the surface of the ground. All cess- pools shall be not less than four (4) feet inside measure.ment vlhen finished. All cesspools shall be walled up and arcbed over with first Brade, full size common brj,ck, or wi th approved concrete blocks. The arch s.hall be turned in not less than thirty (30) inches, and the top of the arch shall be thirty (30) inches beloVl the surface of the ground. In bri ck (:es spools. the brick shall be laid flat and spaced not more than one ( I) inch apart. Bottom course of brick shall be laid headers, touchinE5 eHch other. Brick in the arch shall be laid tisht and in cement mo:t't aI' , and well plastered over the top. Mortar shall be mixed one (I) pa:t't (:ement to three (3) parts sand. Every cesBpool of brick or rectangular cement blocks shall have a binder course conBisting of not less than three (3) courses laid tight together in every ton (10) feet of \JaIl heiGht. In concrete block lined cesspools, the concrete blocks must be of a qual:1.ty to withstand a minimum compression test of one thousand six hundred (1,600) pounds per square inch. Seepage openin~s in concrete -1- ii~iJSXiP Lfi-d /5}7 blocks shall be not less than ten (10) square inches to each square foot of wall surface, and no opening shall be larger than one (1) inch by four (4) inches. Concrete radial segment blocks used in cesspool construction shall be of a thickness of not less than two (2) inches, a heighth of not more than twelve (1:<:) inches, and a length of not more than twenty-four (24) inches. The ends of the blocks shall be laid tiCht together so that they nill key one vlith the other. Vertical joints shall be broken in each course. Bottor>, course shall be laid in such a manner that it \7ill provide support not less than that required for brick cesspools. Each such cesspool shall have a suitable arch, satisfactory to the Inspector, laid in cement mortar. The Buildine Inspector shall have the authority to require a material test made uhenever he shall deem it necessary. The Contraotor shall pay all costs of said tests if the material fails to meet the requirements of this Ordinance. SECTIO~ 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from the passage thereof, shall cause the same to be published once in the Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia Mens, a ne~spaper of general circulation, published and circulated in the City of Arcadia, and thirty (30) days from and after the final passa~e tcereof said Ordinance shall take effect and be in force. I hereby certify that the forecoin~ Ordinance nas adopted ~djourned at ayregular meetinc: of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, held on the 22d day of ADril , 1941, by the affirmative vote of at least three Councilmen, to-wit: AYES: COULcilmen,Adcock, Bolz, Leeper, Ormsby and Perkins.
