HomeMy WebLinkAbout0499 ORDINANCE NO. 499. AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COmqCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 474 OF SAID CITY RELATING TO AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS. THE CD?Y COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLO~iS: SECTION l. That Section 4. of Ordinance No. 474" of the City of Arcadia, entitled "An Ordihance of the City Council of the City of Arcadia Relating to Air Raid Precautions", adopted on the 22nd day of December. 1941, be and the same is hereby amended to read as fol10~s: SECTION 4. The maintenance or leaving of any illumination, except within a blackout structure, without provision for its extinguish- ment. within one m:lnute after the commencement of a period of air raid alarm by a competent person over the age of eighteen years attendant at a place where such iJ_l~iLnation is controlled, is hereby prohibited; prOVided, however, that this Ordinance shall not prohibit the maintenance of any warning light or lantern in or about any excavation or obstruction in any public way or place, or at anyplace of danger upon public or private property, when such warning light or lantern is required to be maintained by any other law or Ordinance and is so desi~ed as to emit no illumination upward in excess of twelve degrees from the horizontal, and conforms to the standards prescribed by the Ninth Regional Civilian Defense Board and approved by the COIDUanding General of the Uestern Defense Command and Fourth Army. SECTION 2. Any person who shall violate any provision of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding Three Hundred (~300.00) Dollars, or by imprisonment in the City Jail of said City of Arcadia, or in the County Jail of said ~ounty of Los Angeles, State of California, at the discretion of the COlmn1tting Uagistrate, for a period not exceeding three (3) inonths, or by bO~jh such fine and imprisonment. SECTION 3~ The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days from the passage thereof,. shall cause the same to be published once in the Arcadia Tribune and Arcadia News, a newspaper of general circulation. pUblished and circulated in the City of Arcadia, and thirty (30) days from and after the final passa3e thereof said Ordinance shall take effect and be in force.
