FROM: Sara Somogyi, Recreation and Community Services Director g(
SUBJECT: Grant from Target in the amount of $15,000 for Recreation &
Community Services Department's Concert in the Park Program
Recommendation: Accept the Grant
SUMMARY
Target has awarded a grant to the Recreation and Community Services Department for
the amount of $15,000. The Recreation and Community Services Department applied for
the grant to fund the Summer Concerts in the Park Program. A similar grant was
awarded to the City for the program the past two years.
DISCUSSION
The Recreation and Community Services Department applied for a similar grant from
Target for the 2010 and 2011 Summer Concerts in the Park programs. In the past, the
City Council has voted to accept the grant from Target for the summer concert in the park
program.
As part of the grant, Target would be promoted in the title of the event. The proposed title
submitted on the grant application was: Target Free Summer Concerts in Arcadia. The
Target logo would be included into current Concert in the Park logo for promotion. Target
would also be recognized on all printed materials and in all press related articles just as it
was in the last two summer promotional materials.
FISCAL IMPACT
For the past two years, the Recreation and Community Services Department has
received grants from Target to sponsor the Concert in the Park Series. The first year we
received the grant, it was in the amount of $22,000. The second year we received the
grant the amount was $20,000. With this being the third and final year we are eligible for
the grant, the maximum amount we are able to receive is $15,000.
Typically, the Concerts in the Park program are funded over a two fiscal year periods out
of the general fund. With the anticipation of the grant being less than in previous years
staff budgeted a total of $8,730 to offset the difference for the less monies received by the
grant this year. No additional funds are needed to operate the program at the same level
for the fiscal year; however to operation the program at the same level for the summer of
2013, additional funds will need to be added in lieu of the grant funds.
RECOMMENDATION:
Accept the grant from Target in the amount of $15,000 for Recreation & Community
Services Department's Concert in the Park program
