HomeMy WebLinkAbout0439 Offi)INANCE NO. _.4.39 AN ORDINANCE- OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, ESTABLISH- ING IN SAID CITY OF ARCADIA, ZONES OR DISTRICTS AND REGULATING THEREIN THE USE OF PROPERTY, HEIGHT OF BUILDINGS AND REQUIRING OPEN .SPACES FOR LIGHT AND VENTILATION; TO REGULATE AND RESTRICT THE LOCATION OF TRADES AND INDUSTRIES AND THE LOCATION OF BUILDINGS DESIGNED FOR SPECIFIED USES; PROVIDING FOR THE ENFOR EMENT AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE'VIOLATION THEREOF. D ' ~ ~ , The City Council of the, City of Arcadia does ordain as follows: ) WHEREAS, th~ public interest, health,c"mfort,.convenience, safety ~d general welfare require the establishment within the City of Arcadia, California, of zones or districts within which the use of property and height of buildings shall be regulated. ' NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS of an'Act of the Legislature of the State'ofCalifornia, entitled, "An Act to provide for the establishment within municipalities of districts or zones within which the use of property, height of improvements and required open spaces for light and ventilation for buildings may be regulated by Ordinance" approved May 31, 1917, the City Gouncil of the City of Arcadia, California, does ordain as follows: SECTION 1: DEFINITIONS. For the purposes of this Ordinance, certain terms shall include the fUture; all words in the plural number shall include the, singular number and all words in the singular number shall include the plural number. 1. Accessory. The word "Accessory" means a subordinate building or portion or main buiiding the use of which-is incidental to and appropriate to . that ,of the main building. 2. Dwellin~s. A Dwelling is any house or building or portion thereof which is oQ~upied, in whole or in part as the home'~ ~esidence, or sleeping place, either permanent or transient of one or more human beings. 3. Types of Dwellings; For the purpose of this Ordinance, the types of dwellings are determined as follows: Single family dwellings, duplex dwellings, multiple dwellings, apartments ,or,tenements. 4. .. A Single Family DWelling. A Single Family Dwelling is a dwelling designed or intended for use of one family only, including however, servants and employees, provided no single family dwelling shall have more than one kitchen. " 13. Hospital or Sanitarium. A,"Hospital or Sanitarium" is a building in which sick, demented, indigent, dependent, injured or infirm persons are housed or is designed for or is intended ,to:'be occuped by sick, injured, demented,' indigent, dependent or infirm persons, except that this definition shall not apply to members of a' family or relatives within the fourth degree. 14. PrDperty Line., The "Property Line", is the boundary line between abutting property. 21. Street Line. "Street Line", is the boundary line between the street and the abutting property. 22.
