DATE: December 6, 2011
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Sara Somogyi, Recreation & Community Services Director
Prepared by: Ryan Wright, Recreation & Community Services Assistant
Director
SUBJECT: APPROPRIATE AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $8,000 FROM THE
EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT FUND FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE
WILDERNESS PARK RANGE.
Recommendation: Approve
SUMMARY
The heavy duty range located in the kitchen at Wilderness Park ceased to work and is not
repairable. Based on the heavy use of the facility staff has requested to replace the
range as soon as possible. In order to provide a range of similar size and capability, city
staff has recommended a budget appropriation from the Equipment Replacement Fund in
an amount not to exceed $8,000.
DISCUSSION
The Wilderness Park kitchen is one of most utilized City facilities with rentals nearly every
weekend of the year, as well as the City's summer weekday camp. The existing heavy
duty range includes the stovetop, oven, and griddle which is utilized for preparing meals
for campers throughout the day.
Staff has been researching similar ranges to replace the damaged range and is confident
it can be replaced for less than $8,000. If approved, the Recreation & Community
Services Department will work closely with the Public Works Department to coordinate
the purchase and installation as soon as possible.
FISCAL IMPACT
The City of Arcadia has an Equipment Replacement Fund to replace non-repairable or
depleted City equipment. Funds are available in the Equipment Replacement Fund
balance to purchase a new range, not to exceed $8,000.00
RECOMMENDATION
Approve a budget appropriation in an amount not to exceed $8,000 from the
Equipment Replacement Fund for the purchase of a new range at Wilderness Park.
Approved :
Donald Penman, City Manager
