ORDINANCE NO. 393
AN ORDINAUCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCf1DIA
ESTABLISHInG SET B.\CK LINES ON A PORTION OF CALIFORNIA STREET AND
ON A PORTION OF DIAlliOND STR,SET IN SAID CITY OF ARCADIA.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA bOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That after a public he aring pursuant to
Resolution of Intention No. 950, the City Council of the City
of Arcadia does hereby determine that the public peace, health,
safety, interest and welfare require and it is hereby ordered that
the minimum. distance from the street line for the erection of
buildinGs or structures to be desi3nated as the buildin3 line on
a portion of California Street and on a portion of Diamond Street
in said City of Arcadia shall be.as hereinafter set forth.
SZCTION 2~ That it shall be unlaTIful for any person,
firm or corporation to erect, construct or locate any building
or other str<:~cture upon any lot or land fronting on a portion
of California. Street and on a portion of Diamond Street in said
City of Arcadia, except in conformity to those certain set back
lines described as follows:
A set back line distant sixteen (16.') feet southerly
from and parallel to the southerly line of California street,
from Santa Anita Avenue to First Avenue.
A set back line distant sixteen (16' ) feet northerly
from and parallel to the northerly line of Diamond Street from
Santa Anita Avenue to First Avenue.
SEC'rION 3. That that portion of Ordinance No. 257 only
which is in c:mflict here\'li th, or any other Ordinance or portions ,

Ordinances in conflict herewith, be and the same are hereby
repealed; that this repealing clause is not intended to affect
other portion:3 of Ordinance No. 257 or any other Ordinance of the
City of Arcadia not in conflict with this Ordinance.
~~ION 4. That any person, firm or corporation violating
any of the provisions of this Ordinll!lce shall be deemed guilty of a

misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable oy a
fine not exceeding THREE HUNDRED ($300.00) DOLLARS, or by imprison-
ment in the City jail of said City of Arcadia or in the County jail
of said Coun'~y of Los Ane;eles, State of California, at the dis-
cretion of the Cormnittin~j MaGistrate, for a period not exceeding
three (3) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment; and each
Buch r-erson, firm or corporation shall be deemed 3uilty of a
separate offense for each day during any portion of which the
violation of or failure, neglect or refusal to comply with any
of the provisions of this Ordinance is cormnitted, continued or
pel'mi tted.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Ordinance and cause the same to be pUblished once in the
Arcadia Tribune, a newspaper of general circulation, pUblished and
circulated in said City of Arc&dia, and thlrty (30) days from and
after the final passa~e hereof the same shall take effect and be in
force.
Ih<sreby certify that the foregoinG Ordinance was adopted
at a regular meeting of the Oity Council of the City of Arcadia,
held on the ~;th day of 'J)ecember.. 1938, by the affirmative vote of
at least three councilmen, to-wit:
AYES: Councilmen Bolz, Griffitts, Malin, Llurpby and Niday

ABSEHT: None
