AN ORDINANCE OF THE CI1Y COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, AMEND-
ING ORDINANCE NO. 726 OF SAID CITY BY
ADDING SECTION 11.1 THERETO '
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA,
DOES DETERIIlINJ!: .1,ND ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the raising of poultry and domestic
fowls on a commercial basis is no longer permitted in the residen-
tial zones of the City of Arcadia except as a valid non-conforming
use. That the increased residential development of the City of
Arcadia requires the further regulation of the raising of poultry
and domestic fowls as hereinafter provided. That the artificial
illumination at night of poultry ranches causes unreasonably loud
noises to be created, disturbing of and detrimental to the peace,
quiet, and welfare of the inhabitants of residences, even if con-
structed at the distances from poultry ranches as required by applic-
able regulations. That the artificial illumination throughout the
night time of premises upon which poultry and domestic fowls are
kept is not indispensable to the continued keeping of such flocks
and can be dispensed with without undue hardship on such owners.
SECTION 2. That Ordinance No. 726, entitled "AN ORDI-
NANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA REGUh~TING THE
KEEPHG OF DOMESrrIC ANINf.ALS, POULTRY AND RABBITS IN THE CITY OF
ARCADIA, AND FIXING PENALTIES FOR 'rHE VIOINrrON THEREOF", adopted

October 5, 1948, be' and the' same is hereby further 'amended by
adding thereto a new Section .11.1, the, same to read as follow s:
SECTION 11.1. .. ,Jj:xcep~ as in fhe next paragraph provided,
it shall be unlaWful for any person, between the hours of 10:00
p.m. and 6:00 a.m.,' in any manner to illuminate any coop, shed,
building, house.structure or other enclosure wherein poultry or
domestic fowls are kept or maintained.

The foregoing reguiation shall'not'apply to any of the
following:
a. To any bui'lding which is entirely enclosed by solid
walls, floor and rooF. A wall with door or window shall be con-
strued a s a solid wall for the purpose of this Section, if such
door and window are kept:' closed while the building or structure is
illuminated during the, hours specified in the preceding paragraph.
b. To any building or structure while the same is used

exclusively for the raising of poultry or domestic animals less
than twelve weeks of age.

c. To the temporary illumination of any building or
structure and during such time as' the owner or person in charge is
actively engaged in protecting such poultry or domestic fowls from
any person or animal immediately endangering the security, safety

or life thereof.
SECTION 3. The City Cle'rk shall certify to the e, doption

of this Ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days
from the passage thereof; shall cause the same ,to be published
once in the Arcadia Bulletin, a newsp"P er of general circulation
published and circulated in the City of Arcadia, and thirty (30)
days from and after the final passage thereof said Ordinance shall

at a regular meeting of the City, Council of the City of Arcadia,
