ORDINANCE NO. 816
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ARCADIA AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 257 OF SAID
CITY BY ADDING SECTIONS l-A and I-B THERETO.
THE CITY COID{CIL OF THE CITY OF ~~CADIA, CALIFORNIA DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That pursuant to the recommendation of the
Planning Commission of the City of Arcadia, made after pUblic
hearing as provided in Section 4 of Ordinance No. 229 of said
City, adopted August 21, 1929, Ordinance No. 257 entitled, "An
Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Arcadia Establishing
a Setback lines on Certain Streets and Avenues in Said City of
Arcadia and Providing a Penalty for a Violation Thereof," adopted
May 19, 1931, be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto
Section l-A and Section I-B, the same to read respectively as
follows:
SECTION l-A: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary
in Section 1 of Ordinance No. 257 of the City of Arcadia a setback
line distant twenty (20) feet from and parallel to the easterly
line of Holly Avenue between Leroy Avenue and Naomi Avenue, all
pUblic streets in the City of Arcadia, is hereby established and
re-established.
SECTION I-B: Notwithstanding anything to the contrary
in Section 1 of Ordinance No. 257 of the City of Arcadia a setback
line distant sixty (60) feet northerly from and parallel to the
center line of Sierra Madre Boulevard between Santa Anita Avenue
and the present westerly City boundary, is hereby established and
re-es tablished.
SECTION 2. Section 1 of Ordinance No. 257 of the City of
Arcadia adopted May 19, 1931, insofar as the same is contrary to
or inconsistent with Sections l-A and l-B hereinabove, is
hereby amended accordingly, and the setbacks established and
re-established by Sections l-A and I-B hereinabove shall prevail

over the setback affecting the same property previously established
by said Ordinance No. 257.
SECTION 3. This ordinance is hereby declared to be an urgency
measure, and shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. The
following is a statement of the facts showing its urgency: Con-
siderable construction of private housing is being prevented by the
excessive setbacks now in existence on the properties affected; the ~
Planning Commission and Council of the City of Arcadia have approved
subdivision maps effecting portions of the properties affected with
lesser setback lines than are now in effect; numerous residences have
already been constructed on portions of the property affected without
compliance with the setbacks now in effect, but in conformity with
the setbacks hereby established; that the immediate adoption and
effectiveness of this ordinance is necessary to prevent further
confusion to officials of the Building Department of said City and
to prevent further hardship and financial loss to the owners of the
property affected.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this ordinance and prior to the expiration of fifteen (15) days
from the passage thereof shall cause the same to be published once
in the Arcadia Bulletin, a newspaper of general circulation,
published and circulated in the City of Arcadia.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Ordinance was adopted at
a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, held
on the 18th day of July, 1950, by the affirmative vote of at least
three Councilmen, to-wit:
