RESOLUTION NO. 4285
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ARCADIA PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO
SECTION 401 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF
ARCADIA RELATING TO A LIMIT ON CONSECUTIVE
TERMS OF OFFICE FOR A COUNCILMAN,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA
THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Arcadia
hereby submits to the voters of said City a proposition to amend
the Charter of the City of Arcadia by amending Section 401 of
said Charter to read as follows:
"ELIGIBILITY. No person shall be eligible to
hold the office of Councilman unless he is,
and shall have been for at least two years
immediately preceding his election or appointment,
a legally registered voter and resident of the
City. A Councilman who has been elected for
three consecutive four-year terms, excluding
part or all of any unexpired term, shall not
be eligible to hold the office of Councilman
again until two years after expiration of the
third consecutive term. This section shall
apply to Councilmen holdin~ office on the effec-
tive date of this Charter.
SECTION 2. Said proposition shall be submitted to the
voters at a special city election to be held in the City of Arcadia
on the 7th day of November, 1972, and as set forth on the ballot
shall read as follows:
"Shall an amendment to Section 401 of the Charter
of the City of Arcadia, which amendment provides
that a Councilman who has been elected for three
(3) consecutive terms shall not be eligible again
for two (2) years after his last term of office,
be adopted?"
SECTION 3. Said special election shall be consolidated
with the statewide general election to be held on November 7, 1972.

Said election shall be conducted in accordance with Resolution
No. 4282 requesting the Board of Supervisors to consolidate said
election and in accordance with applicable law.
SECTION 4. If a majority of the voters voting thereon
at said election shall vote in favor of the proposed Charter
amendment, it shall be submitted to the Legislature for approval
and shall be effective upon .approval by the Legislature.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was
adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
Arcadia held on the 15th day of August
, 1972, by the affirma-
tive vote of at least three Councilmen, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Arth, Butterworth and Hage
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilmen Helms and Scott
