HomeMy WebLinkAbout5150 '---- RESOLUTION NO. 5150 '\ . , , A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING REGULATIONS FOR CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE, PERTAINING TO MATERIALS SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORATE AND THE COSTS THEREOF FOR THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON TUESDAY, THE 10th DAY OF APRIL, 1984. WHEREAS, Section 10012 of the Elections Code of the State of California authorizes the governing body of any local agency to adopt regulations pertain- ing to materials prepared by any candidate for a municipal election, including costs thereof; and NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That pursuant to Section 10012 of the Elections Code of the State of California, each candidate for elective office to be voted for at the General Municipal Election to be held in the City of Arcadia on the 10th day of April, 1984, may prepare a candidate's statement on an appropriate form provided by the City Clerk. Such statement may include the name, age and occupation of the candidate and a brief description of no more than two hundred (200) words of the candidate's education and qualifications expressed by the candidate himse1f/ herself. Such statement shall not include party affiliation of the candidate, nor membership or activity in partisan pol itical organizations. Such statement shall be filed in the office of the City Clerk at the time the candidate's nom- ination papers are filed. Such statement may be withdrawn, but not changed, during the period for filing nomination papers and until 5:00 p.m. on the next working day after the close of the nomination period. SECTION 2. That in compliance with the recent amendments to the Federal Voting Rights Acts of 1965, as amended, the City Clerk shall provide a Spanish translation of the candidate's statement to anyone requesting the translations. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall send to each voter with the sample ballot, a voter's pamphlet which contains the statement of each candidate in -1- 5150 English and Spanish for those candidates who have requested the translation pursuant to law. SECTION 4. That each candidate filing a candidate's statement shall be billed for the services rendered, a sum not greater than the actual prorated costs of printing, handling, translating and mailing the candidate's statement, and such bill shall be due and payable immediately upon receipt thereof. SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall provide each candidate or the can- didQte's representative a copy of this Resolution at the time nominating peti- tions are issued. .- I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THE FOREGOING RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED AT A REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA HELD ON THE 6th DAY OF DECEMBER, 1983, BY THE AFFIRMATIVE VOTE OF AT LEAST THREE COUNCIL MEMBERS, TO WIT: AYES: Councilmen Dring, Hannah, Pellegrino, Lojeski NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Haltom .~~ City Cl erk of the City SIGNED AND APPROVED THIS 6th day of December 1983.
