HomeMy WebLinkAbout5060 \' RESOLUTION NO. 5060 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA ESTABLISHING THE ARCADIA OLYMPIC COMMISSION WHEREAS, the Games of the XXIIIrd Olympiad will be held in Los Angeles from July 28 through August 13, 1984; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee has been created to organize and operate the games; and WHEREAS, the Olympic Equestrian events will be held at Santa Anita Park; and WHEREAS, the City of Arcadia wishes to stimulate international interest, recognition and goodwill for the City during this Olympiad: NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. CREATION. There is hereby created and established the Arcadia Olympic commission. SECTION 2. MEMBERSHIP. The Arcadia Olympic commission shall consist of eleven (11) members. SECTION 3. APPOINTMENTS AND REMOVAL. The City Council shall appoint a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and other members of the Commission, and may remove such appointees by a majority vote of the Council. SECTION 4. MEETINGS. The Arcadia Olympic Commission shall meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month, at a time and in a -1- 5060 place designated by the Chairman, and at such other times as the Chairman may deem necessary or advisable. SECTION 5. DUTIES. Subject to review and approval by the City Council, the Arcadia Olympic Commission shall: a. Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Garnes. b. Keep the City Council and the Arcadia community advised and informed on activities and events of the XXlllrd Olympiad, particularly the Equestrian events at Santa Anita Park, and recommends to the City Council such action as may be in the interests of the City. c. Coordinate City activities with the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee and its affiliate. d. Appoint members to a Citizens Advisory Council for the Olympics to provide broad-based community input to the Commission. e. Perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the City Council. SECTION 6. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
