HomeMy WebLinkAbout6516 RESOLUTION NO. 65 I 6 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, RECOMMENDING THAT THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY BOARD OF DIRECTORS PLACE THE METRO GOLD LINE FOOTHILL EXTENSION LIGHT RAIL PROJECT AS A FUNDED PROJECT IN THE REGIONAL LONG RANGE TRANSPORTATION PLAN WHEREAS, the intent of this Resolution is to clearly communicate the position of the City of Arcadia with respect to the importance of the timely completion of the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension ("Gold Line") project; and WHEREAS, the City of Arcadia fomlally appeals to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority ("MT A") Board of Directors to assist the Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority ("Construction Authority") in their effort to obtain Federal First Starts money from the Federal Transit Administration ("FT A"); and WHEREAS, the City of Arcadia has undertaken these activities with the good faith understanding that the Gold Line will be completed in a timely fashion, and that it will be operated once it has been completed; and WHEREAS, the City of Arcadia asserts that it is incumbent on the MT A Board of Directors to prepare and plan for the operation of the Gold Line, and to fund that operation and its maintenance in the 2006 Long Range Transportation Plan. 1 NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City of Arcadia recommends that the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority place the funding for the operation and maintenance of the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Project in the 2006 Long Range Transportation Plan and include the Gold Line Foothill Extension as a funded Long Range Priority Project. SECTION 2. The City Council further finds and declares that failure to take this requisite planning action would be an undue hardship to the Cities along the Foothill Corridor that urgently need this regional transportation project in the Eastern portion of the San Gabriel Valley. SECTION 3. The City of Arcadia also calls upon the MT A to support and assist the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority m obtaining First Starts funding from the Federal Transit Authority. SECTION 4. The City of Arcadia expresses its satisfaction with the governance plan adopted for the Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority and by the Joint Powers Authority of the Gold Line Cities. SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. 2 6516 Passed, approved and adopted this 4th day of April 2006. ATTEST: '-...
