RESOLUTION NO. 5236
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ARCADIA ESTABLISHING COMPENSATION FOR THE
POSITIONS OF FIRE CAPTAIN, FIRE ENGINEER,
FIREFIGHTER ASSIGNED AS FIRE PREVENTION
SPECIALIST, FIREFIGHTER ASSIGNED AS PARAMEDIC,
AND FIREFIGHTER, FOR THE FISCAL YEARS 1985-86,
1986-87 AND 1987-88 (FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION)
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Effective December 22, 1985, the salary schedule shall be
improved by 5% for the following classifications:
Fire Captain
Fire Engineer
Firefighter Assigned as Paramedic
Firefighter Assigned as Fire Prevention Specialist
Firefighter
SECTION 2. For the classifications listed in Section 1, the City shall
continue to provide as Deferred Compensation a set dollar amount to be paid.
toward the employee's contribution to the Public Employees' Retirement System.
Effective December 22, 1985, the set dollar amount to be paid as Deferred
Compensation shall be an amount equal to 6% of the December 22, 1985 Salary
Schedule rate for each employee. Such dollar amount shall be fixed and shall
not automatically increase due to future salary adjustments.

SECTION 3. Effective June 22, 1986, for the classifications listed in
Section 1 above, the Salary Schedule rate shall be improved by 3%. The City
shall adjust the dollar amount paid as Deferred Compensation to an amount
equal to 3% of the June 22, 1986 Salary Schedule rate for each employee. Such
dollar amount shall be fixed and shall not automatically increase due to
future salary adjustments.
SECTION 4. Effective December 20, 1987, for the classifications listed
in Section 1 above, the Salary Schedule rate shall be improved by 5%. The
City shall adjust the dollar amount paid as Deferred Compensation to an amount
equal to 3% of the December 20, 1987 Salary Schedule rate for each employee.
Such dollar amount shall be fixed and shall not automatically increase due to
future salary adjustments.
SECTION 5. Effective July 1, 1985, for the classifications listed in
Section 1 above, the City shall pay up to $261 per month toward the health and
dental insurance premium cost of the City's health insurance plan, to each
employee enrolled in the health and dental insurance plan.
If the City's contribution exceeds the cost of employee-only coverage,
the difference shall be contributed toward the cost of dependent coverage. The
excess may be paid in cash or to the employee's account in the City's Deferred
Compensation plan, at the employee's option.

If the premium cost of the health and dental plan exceeds the City's
contribution, the employee shall pay through payroll deduction the difference
between the monthly premium and the amount contributed by the City.
The employee's exercise of the option to use the difference toward
dependent health and dental coverage, cash payment or the Deferred
Compensation plan is subject to the conditions controlling enrollment periods
and eligibility established by the respective plans or carriers.
SECTION 6. Effective July 1, 1987, for the classifications listed in
Section 1 above, the City shall pay an additional $10.00 per month or an
amount equal to the 1987 -'88 Fiscal Year increase in the insurance premium
for family coverage, whichever is greater, toward the health and dental
insurance premium cost of the City's health and dental insurance plan, to each
employee enrolled in the health and dental insurance plan.
If the City's contribution exceeds the cost of employee-only coverage,
the difference shall be contributed toward the cost of dependent coverage. The
excess may be paid in cash or to the employee's account in the City's Deferred
Compensation plan, at the employee's option.

SECTION 7. Effective July 1, 1985, for the classifications listed in
Section 1 above, the City shall pay up to $10.60 per month toward the employee
coverage of the disability income insurance plan.
SECTION 8. Effective July 1, 1985, for the classifications listed in
Section 1 above, the City shall provide each employee with term life insurance
in the amount of $7,500.00.
SECTION 9. Effective July 1, 1985, shift (56 hour) Firefighter
personnel assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau shall receive $46.15 per pay
period in addition to the base salary.
SECTION 10. Effective July 1, 1985, a Fire Captain assigned as a Truck
Company Captain shall receive $46.15 per pay period in addition to the base
salary.
SECTION 11. Effective July 1, 1986, for the classifications listed in
Section 1 above, the City shall contract with the Public Employees Retirement
System to provide the 2% at 50 formula in accordance with Section 21252.01 of
the Government Code. The City shall also contract with PERS for the increased
1959 Survivors Benefit (Section 21382.2 of the Government Code).
SECTION 12. The salary and benefits set forth herein are predicated on
a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by the City and the Arcadia Firefighter
Association. At the time of this Resolution, the MOU is not in final written
form. The terms of this Resolution shall be of no force and effect if the MOU
referred to herein is not signed by August 12, 1985.

SECTION 13. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Resolution.
