RESOLUTION NO. }.88~ <;// oJ
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ARCADIA REQUESTING THE
PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION TO CONSIDER
INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF MONEY AVAILABLE
FOR THE PRESENT UNDERGROUNDING PROGRAM
AND BROADENING THE SCOPE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, pursuant to decisions of the Public Utilities
Commission in Case No. 8209, a commendable program for the
undergrounding of public utilities is now underway; and
WHEREAS, it appears to this Council that the rate of
progress of that program should be substantially accelerated and
the program broadened to include residential areas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
hereby requests that the Public Utilities Commission take steps
which will accomplish the following:
1. Increase the amount of money made available each
year for undergrounding by at least three times the 1969 amount.
2. Permit the use of undergrounding funds for conversion
from aerial to underground in residential areas, without regard to
any factor other than the residential character of the area, or,
in the alternative, permit the use of undergrounding funds to
supplement incentive programs for conversion from aerial to under-
ground in residential special assessment districts where the prop-
erty owners are required to pay one-half or more of the cost.
The City Clerk is directed to forward copies of this
resolution to the Public Utilities Commission, the Southern
California Edison Company, and to the Los Angeles County Division,
League of California Cities.
