HomeMy WebLinkAbout4110 RESOLUTION NO. ";;C1Er ",///0 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA ENDORSING THE BAN ON CONSTRUCTION OF SMOG PRODUCING POWER PLANTS IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. WHEREAS, large stationary electrical power plants using fossil-fueled steam generators contribute significantly to air pollution in the Los Angeles basin; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles basin cannot tolerate any more air pollution; and WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors, in their capacity as the Air Pollution Control Board, has enacted stringent regulations for controlling emissions from new power plants, Rule 67; and WHEREAS, using available technology, large power plants cannot be designed so as to comply with Rule 67. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby expresses its support for the action of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in banning new construction of large fossil-fueled power plants until such time as such plants can comply with Rule 67 and thereby operate without significant pollution of the air. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
