HomeMy WebLinkAbout4131 RESOLUTION NO. ~ ;//ca/ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA REQUESTING THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION TO INSTITUTE A SPECIAL STUDY AS A BASIS FOR REQUIRING RAILROADS TO LANDSCAPE RIGHTS OF WAY IN UREAN AREAS. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Arcadia is engaged in an active program of landscaping City streets and removing electrical and telephone utility poles therefrom; and WHEREAS, the Public Utilities Commission, through its activities, has greatly facilitated the undergrounding of overhead electrical and telephone poles by requiring the utilities to make certain expenditures each year for such purposes; and WHEREAS, the present condition of railroad rights of way in certain urban areas is often as unsightly as utility poles and tendsto cause blight; and WHEREAS, the landscaping of railroad rights of way would enhance the City's beautification program; and WHEREAS, the cities of El Segundo and Gardena have expressed similar views to the Public Utilities Commission. NC1>l, 'rHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Arcadia hereby requests the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California to make studies and take other action which it deems appropriate in order to institute a program for the landscaping of railroad rights of way in urban areas where the condition of such rights of way has a substantial impact on the adjacent community. -1- ~ Y/ci'/ .
