HomeMy WebLinkAbout6270 RESOLUTION NO. 6270 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, NOMINATING ARCADIA. COUNCIL MEMBER ROGER CHANDLER TO REPRESENT CITIES WITH PRESCRIPTIVE WATER PUMPING RIGHTS ON THE BOARD OF THE SAN GABRIEL BASIN WATER QUALITY AUTHORITY WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority is governed by a Board of Directors composed of seven (7) members, one of which is elected by cities with pumping rights in the San Gabriel groundwater basin, and one of which is elected by cities without pumping rights in the basin (city members); and WHEREAS, in the election for each city member, the candidate receiving the second highest number of votes is eleGted alternate member to serve in the place of the city member when that member is absent from a meeting or when the member's office becomes vacant, until a successor is elected; and WHEREAS, in order to be eligible to hold office as a city member or alternate member of the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority Board of Directors, a nominee must be an elected member of the city council of a city with pumping rights or a city without pumping rights, respectively; and WHEREAS, on or about October 12,2001, Assembly Bill 152 (Chapter 259 of the Statutes of200l) amending the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority Act, was signed into law by Governor Gray Davis; and 1 6270 WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 152 states that if a city member or alternate city member ceases to be a city council member during his or her tenure on the Board of the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority, the seat on the board occupied by that member or alternate shall be deemed vacant; and WHEREAS, city member Christiansen and alternate city member Glenn have ceased to be city council members; and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority has called a special election for the purpose of filling the vacancy in the office of city member and alternate city member for cities with pumping rights; and WHEREAS, the City of Arcadia is one of the cities in the San Gabriel Basin with prescriptive water pumping rights, entitled to vote for city member representing cities with pumping rights; and WHEREAS, the City of Arcadia may, by resolution submitted to the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority before January 3, 2002, nominate a candidate for the office of city member representing cities with pumping rights. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: 2 6270 SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Arcadia nominates Arcadia Council Member Roger Chandler, an elected member of the City Council of the City of Arcadia, as a candidate for the office of member of the San Gabriel Water Quality Authority representing cities with pumping rights. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. Passed approved and adopted this 18th day of December , 2001.
