HomeMy WebLinkAbout6297 RESOLUTION NO. 6297 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY TO RECEIVE PROPOSITION C 40% DISCRETIONARY MUNICIPAL OPERATOR SERVICE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FUNDS FOR THE OPERATIONS OF ARCADIA TRANSIT WHEREAS, on November 6, 1990, the voters of the County of Los Angeles approved Proposition C, an ordinance establishing a one-half percent sales tax for public transit purposes; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority ("MTA") is the agency responsible for administering the tax; and WHEREAS, on April 26, 200 I, the MT A Board ("Board") approved the creation of an ongoing Municipal Operator Service Improvement Program ("MOSIP") beginning in Fiscal Year 2001-2002 to improve service to the transit dependent countywide by reducing overcrowding and expanding services; and WHEREAS, the Board approved $15 million in Proposition C 40% Discretionary funds for Fiscal Year 2001-2002 and $15 million for each of the next four fiscal years with a 3% cumulative increase each year to fund the MOSIP; and 6297 1 c:\MTA\MOSIP RESO_FY02_5-07-02 WHEREAS, the Arcadia City Council has adopted a budget for Arcadia Transit for Fiscal Year 2001-2002 evidencing the need for financial assistance. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The City Council approves and authorizes the Mayor to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the MT A to accept Proposition C MOSIP funds for a period of five years. SECTION 2. The City Council authorizes and directs the City Manager or his/her designee to execute and file a claim with the MT A for local transportation funds in an amount to be determined by formula allocation based on preliminary estimates of funds available, and to take any and all necessary further actions and execute any and all necessary documents in order to receive such funds. 2 6297 c:IMTAIMOSIP RESOJY02_5-07-02 SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. Passed, approved and adopted this 7th day of May 2002.
