HomeMy WebLinkAbout0670 RESOLUTION NO. 670 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DO RESOLVE AS FOLLO\7S: ~REAS, it has came to our attention that certain Federal Agencies contemplate submitting to Congress certain amendments to the Revenue Act of 1932, Whioh amendments will, in our opinion result in a tax burden upon States, State Agencies and/or publicly owned utl1ities, and, milREAS, we are of the opinion that any tax created by Congress tihich results in the imposition of any burden upon States, State Agencies and/or publicly owned utilities ls con- trary to publio policy. NO\7, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the City Council of the City of Arcadia, State of California, protest any Federal taxation which imposes, or may be interpreted to impose, a burden upon states, State Agencies and/or publicly owned utilities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we recommend the adoption of the following amendments to the Revenue Act of 1932. 1. In the enforcement of the Revenue Act of 1932 the Federal Government shall not impose an obligation upon any State or Territory or political subdivision there- of, or the District of Columbia, or on the officers or employees of the aforesaid. 2. The term 'political subdivision' includes ~y district created under the la~s of a State or territory for the purpose of con- structing or operating any public utility. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Senators Johnson and Short- ridge and Representative \7. E. Evans of the 9th Congressional District of California, be and they are hereby urged to assist in protesting any such tax and to submit the above amendments to their respective bodies for immediate passage. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that accredited representatives from the cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles and the East Bay fuunicipal Utility District be and they are hereby authorized and requested, in the name of the City of Arcadia to protest any such tax. -1- - - The Clty Clerk of the City of Arcadia shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. The foregoing Resolution was adopted at a regular Meeting of the City Council of said City of ~cadia, held on the 17th. day of January 1933, by the affirmative vote of at least three Councilman, to-wit: AYES: Councilmen, Busse, Krebs, Link, Sohrader and Seaman.
