TO: Honorable Mayor and
Members of the City Council
FROM: City Attorney
SUBJECT: DETERMINATION OF PREVAILING It/AGES
Labor Code Section 1770, et seq., requires that the body
awordingcontracts for public works shall determine the general
prevailing rate of wages for each type of workman needed to
execute the contract. The Code provides that the determination
can be made by reference to collective bargaining agreements.
Resolution No. 4350 on the July 17 agenda, if adopted,
makes a determinat;on that the prevailing rates for public works
contracts are as established in the collective bargaining
agreements, This is the same procedure that we used last
year in Resolution No. 4174 adopted July 18, 1972.
For your information, attached is a copy of the summary
of the wages called for by the collective bargaining agreements
as prepared by the Los Angeles Building and Construction Trades
Council.
Addi tionally, Resolution No. 1'353 relating to the Chicago
Park Assessment District sets forth the wage rates applicable
to the particular crafts which will be engaged on that project;
this is a formal procedure required by assessment district law.
Respectfully submitted,
~~~
