SiiJf "/1 S-:U A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DESIGNATING 165 CITIZENS OF ARCADIA AS AMBASSADORS OF GOOD WILL ON THE OCCASION OF THE FIRST VISIT OF ARCADIANS TO THEIR SISTER CITY TRIPOLIS IN THE KINGDOM OF GREECE. WHEREAS, sinee days immemorial people everywhere have hoped and prayed for the end of armed conflict as a means to settle inter- national disputes and differences; and WHEREAS, international amity and world peace can be aehieved when people and governments ean be held firm by a golden chain of understanding, respect and friendship; and WHEREAS, it is the desire and wish of the people of Arcadia, California, to extend to the people of Tripolis, in the Kingdom of Greece, the hand of friendship and eomraderie as Sister Cities of the Free World; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the visit to Tripolis of 165 Arcadians from California in Oetober of 1970 is to implement and give meaning to the sister city relationship and to embark upon and activate joint programs of various exchanges and personal eontacts between the peop1e of the Sister Cities with a view to promote mutual understanding, respect and friendship between them; NOW, TlffiREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That we, the people of Arcadia, California, in the United Sta,tes of America, by and through our 165 fellow citizens as ambassadors of Good Will hereby join the people of the City of Tripolis, Arcadia, in Greece, in an affiliation of friend- ship to the end that through our various cultural, industrial, and -1- rSfJ::;L: '//.r2- . commercial exc~anges and contacts on a people-to-people, person-to- person, level, learn to know eaeh other, respeet eaeh other's rights and views, and help eultivate friendships between our people, and thus join in helping build the road to world peace on a bedrock of international harmony and concord. That IN TESTIMONY TO THIS COVENANT we hereby affix our signatures and set thereto the Seal of our City on this 1st day of September , 1970, herein the City Hall of the City of Arcadia, State of California, in the United States of America.
