SUBJECT: Accept gift of $1,000 from Arcadia Masonic Lodge #278 for a library school
intern at the Library.
Recommendation: Accept the donation
SUMMARY
The Arcadia Masonic Lodge #278 is offering the Arcadia Public Library a donation of $1,000
for the stipend of a library intern.
DISCUSSION
The Arcadia Masonic Lodge is offering the Arcadia.Public Library a donation of $1,000 for the
stipend of a library student intern. This internship opportunity is available as part of the "From
Library Interns to Library Leaders (FILL)" program through the Southern California Library
Cooperative, in which the Arcadia Public Library is a member. The interns are given
experience learning and working with the Children's Services and Adult Services sections of
the Library. They also receive an overview of the Library's policies and procedures as well as
the working structure of the organization including Circulation, Technical Services, and
Information Systems. Depending on the intern's interests, strengths, and experience, they are
given a special project as well. This might be a collection development project, or assisting
with and/or developing a public program. Each internship runs for 120 hours. The Library is
pleased to partner with the Arcadia Lodge #278 in this project.
All gifts to the Library are subject to approval by the City Council pursuant to City Charter
article VIII Section 809(d).
FISCAL IMPACT
Receipt of these funds will provide $1,000 for a library intern. The Library Board approves
expenditures of all donations.
