HomeMy WebLinkAbout5610 RESOLUTION NO. 5610 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, REQUESTING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO REVISE THEIR FUNDING PRIORITIES FOR THE DRAFT 30-YEAR INTEGRATED TRANSPORTATION PLAN AND INCLUDE THE FUNDING OF THE LIGHT RAIL EXTENSION FROM PASADENA TO AZUSA AS PART OF THE LOS ANGELES TO PASADENA LINE. WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission (LACTC) has authority over rail planning issues in Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, the LACTC is requesting cities comments on the draft 30-Year Integrated Transportation Plan for Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, a gap in the proposed rail network exists between the cities of Arcadi.a to Irwindale; and WHEREAS, the extension of the Blue Line east from Pasadena to Azusa is not planned until 2012 and would require a new source of capital dollars; and WHEREAS, the San Gabriel Valley represents more than 16% of Los Angeles County but will only receive 5% of the funds set aside for rail construction; and WHEREAS, there are means to make the Pasadena to Azusa light rail extension more cost effective by involving the private sector, moving the terminus to a more affordable real estate location in Azusa and moving some of the proposed stops in Pasadena to points eastward; and WHEREAS, a reduction in the amount spent on transportation demand management could be provided by the private sector could be used for an improved rail program; and 5610 WHEREAS, it appears one of the future bus electrification routes is planned for the 210 Freeway and this would not be necessary if a light rail extension was granted; and NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City of Arcadia requests that LACTC revise their funding priorities for the draft 30-Year Integrated Transportation Plan and include the funding of the light rail extension from Pasadena to Azusa as part of the Los Angeles to Pasadena line. SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
