HomeMy WebLinkAbout5627 RESOLUTION NO. 5627 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, PROVIDING CERTAIN DIFFERENTIAL COMPENSATION TO POLICE OFFICER WHO SERVED IN THE AMERICAN MILITARY DURING THE IRAQ-KUWAIT CRISIS (PERSIAN GULF WAR) WHEREAS, Arcadia Police Officer Ken Harper (employee) served on active military duty during the Persian Gulf War from November, 1990 through August 2, 1991; and WHEREAS, during this time period, employee received thirty (30) days of City military leave as authorized by law (military pay) ($3,397.36); and WHEREAS, employee received military pay from the Federal Government at the rate of $971.00 per month; and WHEREAS, the Arcadia Police Relief Association, on behalf of employee, has requested compensation for employee to make up the difference between what he received while serving in the military in relation to City employment; and WHEREAS, consistent with State Legislation that was promulgated in response to the Iraq-Kuwait Crisis, the City Council has determined to compensate subject employee for a period not to exceed one hundred eighty (180) days, as part of his compensation, the difference between the amount of his military pay ($5,826.60 for six (6) months), and the amount he would have received as a City employee; to wit: $7,498.04. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: 5627 SECTION l. As part of his compensation (salary) Officer Ken Harper is to be paid the sum of $7,498.04. SECTION 2. Effective immediately, sixty (60) hours of vacation leave is to be restored to employee, and reflected on appropriate City records. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall apply to subject employee only with reference to his past service as specified in this Resolution. It shall not relate to any additional duty that he may serve or in any way bind the City of Arcadia with reference to subject employee, or any other employee, with reference to the Persian Gulf War or any other military duty or service by any employee at anytime. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. Passed, approved and adopted this 5th day of November, 1991.
