HomeMy WebLinkAbout5629 RESOLUTION NO. 5629 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, RESPONDING TO THE ARCADIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S TASK FORCE II RECOMMENDATIONS WHEREAS, Arcadia has for many years enjoyed a reputation for quality education; and WHEREAS, many of the residents of this community moved here in a large part because of the quality of the school system; and WHEREAS, the quality of the public school system in Arcadia is a major factor in supporting the high property values that the people of Arcadia currently enjoy; and WHEREAS, the Arcadia City Council, while recognizing that the Board of Education is the elected body to manage the schools in Arcadia, also recognizes that any action taken affecting the quality of education also has an effect on the quality of life and property values in the city; and WHEREAS, the City Council feels that selling valuable assets which may be needed in the future is not a desirable method of solving the school's current fiscal needs; and WHEREAS, the city Council feels that putting an increasing number of students on fewer campuses may cause a deterioration in the educational process in Arcadia. NOW, THEREfORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION l. with respect to the Task Force recommendations regarding the disposal of school property, the Arcadia City Council urges the Board of Education not to sell the Santa Anita School site, nor to enter into long term ground leases for the First 5629 Avenue Junior High School and Bonita School sites. SECTION 2. That the Arcadia City Council urges the Board of Education to continue to provide three (3) middle level schools in our community. SECTION 3. That the Arcadia city council urges the Board of Education to place a bond issue before the voters to raise the funds needed and that the individual members of the City council who have voted in the affirmative on this resolution pledge their support for such a bond issue. SECTION 4. That the city Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resoluti.on and be directed to forward a copy of same to the Arcadia Unified School District Board of Education.
