HomeMy WebLinkAbout5636 RESOLUTION NO. 5636 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING REGULATIONS FOR CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE, PERTAINING TO MATERIALS SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORATE AND THE COSTS THEREOF FOR THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON TUESDAY, APRIL 14, 1992. WHEREAS, Section 10012 of the Elections Code of the State of California authori.zes the governing body of any local agency to adopt regulations pertaining to materials prepared by any candidate for a municipal election, including costs thereof: NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. GENERAL PROVISIONS. That pursuant to Section 10012 of the Elections Code of the State of California, each candidate for elective office to be voted for at the General Municipal Election to be held in the City of Arcadia on April 14, 1992, may prepare a candidate I s statement on an appropriate form provided by the City Clerk. Such statement may include the name, age and occupation of the candidate and a brief description of no more than two hundred (200) words of the candidate's education and qualifications expressed by the candidate himself/herself. Such statement shall not include party affiliation of the candidate, nor membership or activity in partisan political organizations. Such statement shall be filed in the office of the city Clerk at the time the candidate's nomination papers are filed. Such statement may be withdrawn, but not changed, during the period for filing nomination papers and until 5:00 p.m. on the next working day after the close of the nomination period. 1 5636 SECTION 2. SPANISH LANGUAGE. The City Clerk shall have translated and printed in the voters pamphlet only the candidates' statements of those candidates who request translation and printing. SECTION 3. That the city Clerk shall send to each voter with the sample ballot, a voter's pamphlet which contains the statement of each candidate in English and Spanish for those candidates who have requested the translation pursuant to law. No candidate will be permitted to include additional materials in the sample ballot package. SECTION 4. PAYMENT. That each candidate filing a candidate's statement shall be billed for the services rendered, a sum not greater than the actual prorated costs of printing, handling, translating and mailing the candidate's statement filed pursuant to the Elections Code, and such bill shall be due and payable immediately upon receipt thereof. SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall provide each candidate or the candidate' s rl~presentative a copy of this Resolution at the time nominating petitions are issued. SECTION 6. That all previous resolutions establishing Council policy for payment of candidates statements are repealed. SECTION 7.
