HomeMy WebLinkAbout5722 RESOLUTION NO. 5722 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIAf SUPPORTING STATE LEGISLATION TO CONTROL AND LIMIT TAXPAYER EXPENSE AND PUBLIC COSTS WITH REFERENCE TO UNDOCUMENTED PERSONS BY ENDORSING STATE ASSEMBLY BILLS 149, 150 AND l51 WHEREAS, the proliferation of undocumented persons in California is a primary cause of the State's financial crisis, a crisis that threatens the ability to provide needed services and education to the citizens of California; and WHEREAS, the problems attributable to undocumented aliens in California with reference to financial resources and the provision of necessary and basic services is of monumental proportion and constitutes a crisis to the lifef safetYf and welfare of the citizens of this State and to local government and education; and WHEREAS, the concerns of the legislation set forth below are a frank recognition of real problems, and changed circumstances relative to the past in california and seek to address an ongoing crisis that calls for a fundamental shift in the current system. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council supports and endorses Assembly Bill 149 which would prohibit the expenditure of any state funds appropriated in the annual Budget Act or available from any other source for the education of undocumented aliens as specified in the Bill. 1 5722 SECTION 2. The city Council supports and endorses Assembly Bill 150 which would prohibit any state funds from being expended to make payments under the Medi-Cal provider to an alien not lawfully admitted for permanent residence or otherwise permanently residing in the United states under color of law as set forth in the Bill. SECTION 4. The city Council supports and endorses Assembly Bill 151 which would provide that no workers compensation benefits shall be paid under those provisions to any person who is an alien whose employment is unlawful under the laws of the United States regulating the employment of aliens. SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and that a copy of said Resolution is forwarded to all interested parties.
