RESOLUTION NO. 5744
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA ENCOURAGING
THE CALIFORNIA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION
TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE
ENTIRE STATE
Whereas, the entire nation is suffering through a multi-year
economic recession;
Whereas, the California economy has suffered catastrophically
relative to the balance of the nation;
Whereas, California has lost over 800,000 jobs;
Whereas, the state unemployment rate currently hovers over 9%;
Whereas, a study by the County of Los Angeles indicates that
illegal aliens cost the County over $1.4 billion annually for
services including social services, education, law enforcement and
health care.
Whereas, the California constituency has elected 54 members to
Congress representing the largest delegation in the nation;
Whereas, the betterment of the state should be the ultimate
goal of each elected Member of Congress and Senate;
Whereas, the California Congressional Delegation has generally
failed to successfully stem the loss of jobs and decline in the
state economy;
Whereas, the California Congressional Delegation has
specifically lost significant federally funded projects which would
infuse the economy with thousands of jobs;
Whereas, there appear to be partisan, regional and ideological
fissures within the California Congressional Delegation;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES
HEREBY DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section l. That the California Congressional Delegation
forego partisan politics and ideology and focus on the mutual goal
of improving the economy of the State.
