HomeMy WebLinkAbout5744 RESOLUTION NO. 5744 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA ENCOURAGING THE CALIFORNIA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ENTIRE STATE Whereas, the entire nation is suffering through a multi-year economic recession; Whereas, the California economy has suffered catastrophically relative to the balance of the nation; Whereas, California has lost over 800,000 jobs; Whereas, the state unemployment rate currently hovers over 9%; Whereas, a study by the County of Los Angeles indicates that illegal aliens cost the County over $1.4 billion annually for services including social services, education, law enforcement and health care. Whereas, the California constituency has elected 54 members to Congress representing the largest delegation in the nation; Whereas, the betterment of the state should be the ultimate goal of each elected Member of Congress and Senate; Whereas, the California Congressional Delegation has generally failed to successfully stem the loss of jobs and decline in the state economy; Whereas, the California Congressional Delegation has specifically lost significant federally funded projects which would infuse the economy with thousands of jobs; Whereas, there appear to be partisan, regional and ideological fissures within the California Congressional Delegation; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA DOES HEREBY DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section l. That the California Congressional Delegation forego partisan politics and ideology and focus on the mutual goal of improving the economy of the State. section 2. That the California Congressional Delegation develop the following common goals . Curb the flight of jobs from the State . Increase the number of jobs in the State . Seek funding to invest in the infrastructure of the State . Promote economic development opportunities for small and large businesses alike . Stem the flood of illegal aliens and enhance immigration controls section 3. That the City Clerk will forward a copy of this Resolution to members of the California Congressional Delegation; section 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. ALFORD, city Clerk of the city of Arcadia, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution No. 5744 was passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Arcadia, signed by the Mayor and attested to by the city Clerk at a regular meeting of said Council held on the 3rd day of August, 1993 and that said Resolution was adopted by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Councilmember Fasching, Harbicht, Lojeski, Margett and Ciraulo NOES: None ABSENT: None ~ Arcadia 5744
