HomeMy WebLinkAbout5577 RESOLUTION NO. 5577 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE IMMEDIATE INITIATION OF A LOS ANGELES COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION STUDY OF THE TRANSIT ALTERNATIVES FOR THE SANTA FE RIGHT-OF-WAY FROM PASADENA TO CLAREMONT WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission (LACTC) has authority over rail planning issues in Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, the cities along the Santa Fe Corridor are desirous of LACTC commencing a study of transportation alternatives along the Santa Fe right-of-way from Pasadena to Claremont; and WHEREAS, a gap in the proposed rail network exists between the cities of Arcadia to Irwindale; and WHEREAS, the City of Arcadia is desirous of a light rail extension to improve traffic congestion in our city and throughout Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, Santa Anita Racetrack at~racts a daily average of 22,500 people who come from allover Southern California coupled with another 4,000 employees; and WHEREAS, Santa Anita Fashion Park regional shopping mall, adjacent to the track, draw 15,000 shoppers daily, and are served by nearly 1,000 employees; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Arboretum hosts an average of 1,000 people daily; and WHEREAS, Arcadia Methodist Hospital employs 1,200 people and serves hundreds of patients and visitors daily; and 5577 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City of Arcadia requests that LACTC immediately commence a study of the transit alternatives for the Santa Fe Corridor from Pasadena to Claremont with particular attention to the need of a light rail extension east of Pasadena. SECTION 2. That the city Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. Passed, approved and adopted this 2nd day of April, 1991.
