RESOLUTION NO. 5440 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 5421 MODIFYING THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENT TO ELIMINATE THE E STEP EDUCATION REQUIREMENT AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN F AND G STEP ON THE SALARY SCHEDULE FOR POLICE OFFICER, POLICE AGENT AND POLICE SERGEANT (POLICE ASSOCIATION) WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5421 establishes compensation for the Police Association; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the negotiated Memorandum of Understanding, changes were made with regard to the education plan involving those represented by the Arcadia Police Relief Association; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to authorize and reflect these changes in a resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARCADIA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That Resolution No. 5421 is hereby amended by adding the following Section to be incorporated as part of said Resolution to read as follows: STEP INCREASES - EDUCATION Effective January 1, 1989, Police Officers and Police Agents shall progress from Step D to Step E of the Salary Schedule upon the completion of one year of service on Step D. Effective January 1, 1989, Police Officers, Police Agents and Police Sergeants shall progress from Step E to Step F (2 1/2%) of the Salary Schedule when they have completed 12 months on the E Step and have satisfied the basic education and , training requirements by one of the following methods. SLf<.;o 1. The sworn employee shall have been awarded an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree in Police Science, Police Administration or Criminology by an institution accredited by the California Department of Education. 2. The sworn employee shall have 60 or more college units acceptable to a college or university which is accredited by the California Department of Education towards a Baccalaureate degree and have completed a minimum of 20 units in law enforcement acceptable to an accredited California Junior College towards an Associate in Arts Degree in Police Science, Police Administration or Criminology. 3. A sworn employee, employed prior to December 31, 1965, may qualify by having been awarded an Intermediate Certificate by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Effective January L 1989, Police off icers, Police Agents and Police Sergeants shall progress from Step F to Step G (2-1/2%) on the Salary Schedule when tney have completed 12 months on Step F and upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree from an institution accredited by the California Department of Education. Members who qualify for any step advancement based on education shall provide to tse Police Chief a copy of their transcript which shows attainment of the qualifying education. The copy of the transcript shall then be placed in their personnel file. -2- SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
